I bought a new factory iPod kit for my 2007 DB9 from a seller on ebay a while back. After having the kit sit on the shelf for a couple years I finally got around to installing it. At the same time also installed a new phone MOST lead and the factory Dension bluetooth streaming module. I followed the included instructions to the letter and took the car to the dealer to program it all. After a couple of days they returned the car saying they couldn't communicate with the modules to program them. Shockingly the invoice for the work was $0. When was the last time anyone took any 16 year old car to a dealer and didn't get charged?
Once it home I swapped just the ICM back to the old unit and the entertainment system sprung back to life. The new bluetooth and ipod unit still didn't work, of course, but they were still looped into the MOST ring indicating the ring is whole. I've got an old WDS with the AM CD11 software and it can communicate with the old ICM but gives a communication error with the new, validating the dealer's observation.
Strange thing about the new ICM... It shows a bunch of hardware and software text and other codes rather than the normal startup screen. I thought this was normal considering it was supposed to be new, but now I'm not sure. Hopefully someone with some technical AM knowledge can chime in. I doubt I can get the car in a second time without being charged whether they can get it to work or not.
Found an article online. It's in Japanese, but google translate makes short work of it. Looks like a shop had a Virage in for an ICM replacement and the new one was in the exact state as mine. Now I don't know what to think. Did the dealer just not realize the ICM needed a full software download?
After the miss by my local dealer I was able to get my DB9 coded. Once that was done, the AMDS was able to flash all the modules with the correct firmwares. The Dension bluetooth module and iPod kit are fully functional. The audio quality is so much better than the FM radio. Definitely worth the effort to install and the hassle of finding away to get the car coded.
