Aston Martin Vantage - KEY ERROR

I own a 2006 Aston Martin Vantage and my toddler ripped the key into two pieces (at the handle of the key itself, not the remote). After re-attaching (seemed to connect back in with no issue) and inserting back into the ignition a 'KEY ERROR' message appears on the dash and car doesn't start. Does anyone have any experience with this or understand what is happening? Because of what occurred I'm certain it's a key issue and not something related to the fob mechanism or battery. I'd imagine that only replacing the key isnt a realistic option? I'm seeing a key and fob on ebay for around $300. If I do take this route, does anyone know if I can program myself or if it will have to go to Aston Martin regardless?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, -Marvin

Just guessing here, but there's probably an immobilizer chip inside the head of the key. If that's the case, could it have fallen out? Is there a void inside the head of the key? They're usually small, black, flat, and not quite rectangular. Look around the scene of the crime for something that looks like that.

Thanks mate - really appreciate the response. Apologies for the delay in responding as I didn't have access to the key until today. Please see photo below. Is there something that is supposed to fill

that square gap there?

Take a look at this post https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ml#post4846201 it shows the chip that should be inside the key. Without the chip the car won’t start. So look for it where the key was torn apart, may be under a sofa or wherever it was separated. Hope you find it.
