Hey fellow AM-ites.... my rubber is about due for replacement and I am looking for some good quality tires....NOT top-of-the-line Michelins or High-Perf Summer tires....tires that I can use in the winder months if needed. Cost is secondary in some respects- like Michelins but am sorta hoping to find a brand that is currently giving Michelin a "run for their money".
How about Conti ContiSportContact 5P? Anyone have them? Thoughts?

 

I’m running extreme contact sports on my 08…generally very happy…they would be pushing their limits on a track…but for a three season tire..I like them..

 

There was a comparison on those last year in a thread on here. Search it should come up. Continental has some respectable tires on the market. I've recommended them before of people want to save a few $ and would not notice any difference between the two.

Thanks JW U - I too am inclined to prefer Conti's......I do NOT need hi-speed -low drag tires. I need a good balance of all the aformentioned tire attributes....l

 

Well the conti’s should give you that…mine run pretty quiet as well..

 

I would also look at Continental and include Goodyear or Bridgestone.

I put a set of Goodyear Eagle Excellerates on my DB9 and took a 700 mile road trip in which the route plan was “most curves, fewest cops.” I’m quite pleased with the choice. Tire Rack tested them against the Conti’s and Michelins and the Goodyears were the all-around pure performance winners, though they didn’t grade as well for comfort/NVH (hey, we’re driving AM’s, not wussy Audi’s). In a class of their own in the wet.
if price is a concern, General Tire makes a good set (can’t recall the marketing name). I mention this because Continental purchased General a few year ago and General high perf tires are made in Conti’s European factories (Portugal and the Czech Republic). So you’re getting Conti’s at 20% off.

Looks like to me the Pilot All Season 4 is the best for me and my "Grand Touring" driving style of late......was trying to NOT pick Michelin but they are very good tires, fair price and - soo....Thanks all!!

 

I did the same heading into last winter, having had the PS4 summer tires year round for ~5 years. I don’t drive in snow/foul winter weather but do drive in the cold. I’m in Charlotte and sub-freezing winter temps are pretty regular. The point is, which I had not known, Michelin warns against winter temperatures causing tire degradation with summer tires (even w/o driving). I personally did not observe that but was willing to give up some marginal summer-weight performance for one less potential headache. Happy with the all-seasons.
