i did my 2009 with 3m kit 39175 from Amazon. took a while to sand off the film with 500 grit on the UV damaged passenger headlight.
i tried on the driver side light (interior cracking as stated above) and to remove the undamaged PPF was a bi***

Sounds like the consensus is there is a film to deal with.

i don't think the film is factory but was popular for owners to install. if it is uv damaged and somewhat brittle, the sanding takes it off ok. if it is not brittle, it is not fun to get off

I just polished my headlights using the Cerakote kit and I am impressed at the results.
Total time was 1.5 hour, including prep time and a couple of beers in-between the different steps.
You have to let it cure for 1 hour once you apply the coating.

Glad you did it yourself and save some money, it turned out great!
