GMG v. Milltek Exhaust - RS4
GMG v. Milltek Exhaust - RS4
So it seems that the majority of RS4 owners here have the Milltek exhaust, resonated or non-resonated. However, I have seen a few members claim that the GMG sounds better. From the videos on Youtube, I'm leaning more towards the sound of the GMG.
Milltek claims 20hp at the crank, while I don't see any numbers from GMG.
Milltek's non-valved exhausts weigh 25% less than OEM, GMG's weighs 20 pounds less.
Are people choosing the Milltek for the non-resonated version and / or the downpipe combo?
I'm leaning more towards GMG, however I'd like to know what you all think about the two exhausts.

I don't like the GMG because of the tailpipes. I don't like either because I have yet to see one that is aligned perfectly like the OEM setup. Somebody show me one that's lined up right and I might change my mind about the Milltek, but I've yet to come across one.
Personally I like the $300 ECS h-pipe that lets you keep the valved setup and OEM look while adding some volume.
So far if I'm buying any cat-back it will be AWE's version which has a TBD release date, but they're putting names on a list.

I have the GMG exhaust. I like the tailpipes. You can thermocoat them too.
The Youtube files don't do the GMG exhaust note justice. I've driven an RS4 with the Milltek/non-res and I definitely prefer the deeper, more mature sound of the GMG. I get lots of compliments on it. Plenty loud, nice rumble, mechanical, but mature, if that makes sense. The interior volume also mates well with the engine sound. Keep in mind that it sounds louder and deeper as it breaks in.

I personaly think the GMG exhaust is a little bit better. I've done a Milltek RS4 install at our dealer and it was a complete nightmare to line up correctly. This seems to be the case with all of our Milltek installs, which is a shame because they are an exhaust only company. Most techs at my dealer refuse to install anything except AWE.

I have the GMG exhaust on my RS4. I heard the Milltek and GMG systems side by side and prefer the sound of the GMG. Significantly louder and deeper than stock. Peak volume around 2K-3K. After that it is loud but it doesn't drown out the sound of the engine. I've had it on for about 15K miles and have not heard any drone. It also lets out a nice burble sound when you get off the accelerator.
The tips take a little getting used to. I think they look better than anything else out there after thermal coating ( for pics: http://forums.audiworld.com/rs4b7/msgs/75694.phtml). They really blend in with the diffuser. I wish I had done this with mine.
I've heard some pretty bad stories about the fitment of the Milltek. I guess it takes alot of work to get it straight.
Ryne and Fabryce can give more details. They've installed both systems.

NO RS$ experience but I have had Milltek before as well as a few friends, I was very pleased, The downpipe for my Audi at the time was great, and the exhaust was just the right tone at the right time.
As far as install I have also heard some horror stories but mine went very smoothly and I have since installed two more for friends with no issues, plus the guys at Stratmosphere are very easy to deal with

I personally had the Milltek down pipes and res full exhaust and loved them. The sound of the exhaust is addicting. I have the ceramic coated tips. There is little to no drone in 6th at highway speeds but as soon as you downshift and let her have it the exhaust screams big scary V8, then when your rpm’s get up in the 6000-8000 range the car sounds like a F1 car. I turned in my car and have a full exhaust and Dp’s. It is in the Marketplace
