Any Older A4 Owners?

Hey,

I am looking at buying a slightly modded and very clean Audi A4 V6. Anyone have experience with these? It's a 96 (Quattro) 5 speed. I llove these body styles, but how reliable are they? Any main issues with them that should be looked at? It will be a DD so no real mods, maybe some nice brakes, it has some suspension, nothing too insane.

So post pics, tell me about them, whatever!

Simon

I had a 97 2.8 5 speed quattro. The car was great, a real pleasure to drive. The maintnance however can get rather high. If possible get an extended warranty, but I will say that I was able to avoid alot of problems with simple prevenative stuff, like regular oil changes, fluid flush, etc. The major things that I had was a clutch replacement and a replaced the power steering pump.

After that i had a 2003 3.0 and I will say that car is a better buy, especially since they have fallen inprice and can still be had with extended warranty from Audi.

I had a '99 5 spd A4 2.8. Great car, loved it. Just don't offroad it or do axle donuts. I found out the hard way by replacing both front axles, etc. Seriously though, clutch is the only thing that needed replaced besides regular maintenance and it was creeping up on 100k.

The V6's are alot more reliable then the older 1.8T's. I had a 2000 1.8T and have a few friends who had them...when they hit about 80K everything started to fall apart, and they arent cheap to fix. It got to the point where I felt i was paying a car payment a month to keep the thing running. Other then that, great cars seeing as I just bought an 08 A4 2.0T S-line Titanium Pkg 6MT back in November!
