RS4 - NAV/CD changer question
RS4 - NAV/CD changer question
On RS4 w IPOD hookup (no 6 disc changer) and NAV - will the DVD slot of the NAV play regular cd's or better yet MP3 cd's??
Or can someone explain to me about SD cards - I really know nothing about them??
Thanks in advance.....

SD cards make mp3-cd's unnecessary.
You need a cardreader for your PC, a PC, and MP3 files.
Put your card (can be bought for CHEAP, but make sure how many GB's of data the car's system can handle from one card) in your PC, put music on it, take the card to your car and you're set.

Also note that SD cards and SDHC cards are not the same even though they look the same. I have read that the Audi Navi unit accepts SD (up to 4GB) but not SDHC (which are available in up to 16GB)
MUCH easier...If you have the RNS-E (Navi unit), you have absolutely NO NEED for MP3 CD's...
The RNS-E ONLY supports regular SD cards (Do not try the High Capacity "SDHC" as it will not work). Manual says it supports only 256MB, but I have tried up to 4GB and it still works. Only limitation is how many titles it'll display (I forgot, but 4GB will exceed it).
Since you have 2 SD card slots, your best best is just to get two, separate 2GB SD cards. Go to Bestbuy or Circuit City or go online and find them cheap. I got two, 2GB cards for < $30. More than enough music. Get a media card reader that plugs into your USB2.0 port of your computer or laptop (modern laptops usually have media card slots built in).
--> I would recommend NOT using the 4GB ones, as it takes a long time to search through and is slower. Just get more 2GB and swap them out as you feel necessary.
I have an extra 2GB card I have in my house, and when I have enough "new" songs... or feel the mood for a change, I just swap them out. Cheap easy solution...One additional recommendation when putting the songs on the SD cards:
ORGANIZE the songs in folders, and list your songs titles 1, 2, 3, etc. plus the song title. (When you rip the songs from CD, you have an option to select how you want the ripped titles to display... i.e. 01 - Song. If you "borrowed" your songs from an unnamed online sources, just rename the title.)
If you do this, at the TOP of the Navi will display the "folder name", and in the display itself will list the songs.

Yes you can use cd's OR mp3's in the Nav slot. But its easier to get a couple of SD cards and put your mp3's on that so you can still use the Nav functions. The biggest SD cards you can find are 4GB which work just fine with the RNS-E unit....think of them as 2 little Ipods....
