Opinions on the A5?
Opinions on the A5?
Im looking to get an A5, looks wise the car IMO is beautiful but im a little skeptical on the performance. Haven't driven one yet so I cant really tell how it will perform but 265hp seems a little on the low side. To anyone who owns one...overall how is the A5 as a DD? Other cars im considering would be a BMW 335i/xi. How does the A5 compare? Thanks

I used my A5 for a DD; probably more so than others that "Just commute" in it. I also haul computers in it as well since I'm with a Desktop Support group at a large networking company.
Personally, you would want to test drive both, but oddly, the 330iX is compared closer to the A4.
The "Audi A4 Driving Experience" that's been running around the United States, is probably a good venue to try the 2009 A4 v.s. the 328xi, but the disparity in displacement is there (3.2L v.s. 2.8L). Still, if you just keep that in mind and simply drive the autocross they setup and concentrate on acceleration, braking and handling, you'll find the A4 is on par; the only issue I see is the variable ratio steering. I figure if you give your self more time to learn how to use it to your advantage, you'll probably find it's a quicker car around the course. The BMW's steering is precise and very linear so you know where and when you'll be hitting an apex. The A4 was a bit harder to figure out in low speed since it feels a lot like a regular steet car with very easy turning but as you speed up into faster turns, it feels very linear like the BMW.
Now the A5 has a weight disadvantage but people who have time on their side, will wait for any turbo version that will come out in the next year or two. You really should look into the A4 line first. I was going to go that route but like you, I really like the lines of the A5.
Some people do see the 335i and the S5 closer in terms of comparing the two; yes, again, there is a power disparity; I'm guessing it's just tough to compare the two; I think it's intentional on Audi's part.
