Nothing that some mods can't solve.
But at least the R8 is nicer, and rarer.

I'm biased towards the R8 of course, the handling of it makes up for it's "lack" of power (though I feel 420hp is more than enough to put me in jail so i'm satisfied as I don't race at stoplights anyway.) On the track the R8 is just spectacular.

Indeed, the R8 in stock form on the track will make an M6 look like the inadequate car.

The only option is to run NOS .. one owner in the UK ran a B7 RS4 V8 on NOS for a short while with no problems

So a six second difference on a 13 mile road course ('Ring) deems the M6 inadequate to the R8? Therfore your logic leads me to believe that an R8 is inadequate compared to a regular C6 Z51 Vette ........after all it beats the R8 on the track?

I think there will always be a beemer that'll out perform an Audi, except for the new 5.2 FSI R8 since BMW doesn't really have a halo car. The Audi will always have the better interior, better quality, better engine in the case of the 4.2 V8, and better looks (although that's obviously subject to opinion).

No, I was talking about a more typical Western 2 mile track. Clearly the Ring has the room and distance for the higher horsepower cars to outperform. My only point was that if an R8 driver feels inadequate that a 500 hp M6 beat them down the street, that there are interesting characteristics of the R8 elsewhere. There is a magazine or two out there that would agree with that.

The Ring is something special, hence why more and more manufacturer's test there (and advertize such!). It has longer straightaways where the 500hp M6 can catch up with the 4.2 R8 as mentioned, on a shorter track with more twisties the difference would be probably accentuated.

Keep in mind that in 2007, the record for a 4-door sedan on the Ring was not the 500hp M5, nor the 514hp E63 AMG, it was actually...the 420hp (nose heavy) RS4! On a straightaway, there is simply no contest, but we know hardly that is a good real-world comparo. The new record is held by the '09 CTS-V now and is sub 8 mins

The CTS-V reminds me of the GT-R in its physics-defying performance!

Indeed. And it seems GM got this one right relative to last one (power was there, but no control). I wonder now with the General in trouble, what deals can be had on the CTS-V going forward. Have yet to see one in person.

I have an r8 with a full exhaust and cpu upgrades and my M5 will give it to the R8 everyday in every arena...... btw, my M5 is on 22"s slammed. I've had me and my girl in the M5 and had a well good driver in the r8 and I'd eat him up
