Questions for the S4 Avant owners

What up guys..

So I'm interested in an Avant. I have a 04 Cayenne TT that I'm looking to trade and nothing seems to amuse me on the SUV market. The Avant is something I've always liked and I got some questions.

I'm only interested in the S4 or the RS4 Avants... B7s only (isn't that the upgraded front.. 2006+). Is there a such thing as a RS4 Avant in the US? Are manual S4 Avants hard to find? I have boxer that likes to roll with me, is the back hatch area large enough for a dog? Does that rear window happen to roll down?

I'm sure I have a ton more questions, but I'd like to have some Avant owners chime in..

The reason I want a S4 or RS4 (if its even possible) is because I'm a power freak. I just don't think the 4 or 6 cylinder will do it for me. I've owned a 05 A4 3.0 and it wasn't enough... at all.

Thanks!

Unfortunately the RS4 Avant is not available in the US. Manual tranny's are popular in the S4/Avant so locating one preowned shouldn't be too difficult. The so called 'back hatch area' is quite large however, I would suggest a trip to your local dealer with your dog to check it out. The rear window is a fixed type and does not go down.

Thanks man.. much appreciated. It seems difficult to find an S4 Avant.., I'm assuming owners are holding on to them. S4's seem to be all over the place. Is the B7 a better car over the B6 looks wise? Performance I believe is the same right?

I wish that window went down, that would be pretty cool for the 'dog owner'.

In regards to an Avant A4.. is their enough power in them to have some fun? For the modder, would the 2.0 be a better engine chipped than the 6cyl naturally aspirated? In otherwords, is it peppier and therefor funner to drive?

Again.. thanks guys!

Well it looks like I may be getting a 06' S4 Avant.., as my dealer just picked one up at auction. Anyone familiar w/ the dolphin gray metallic color.. how does it look in person? I can't quite grasp the color on the internet photos.

Should be coming in by weeks end.. so I'll see. Anything I should know about in regards to the 06's...? Problems, etc..

Dolphin gray is sweet. A very dark and highly reflective color. A buddy of mine has/had one. (It's now Porsche Seal Gray) Keeping that clean here in the PNW will be a challenge.

The 06 should be a solid car. See if they can CPO it, as it is worth every penny just in case. Barrier car?

PS: Check to see if the headlight TSB has been performed on both lights. (For flickering/dead bulbs) If it hasn't, you will have it done eventually. So see if they can get that one taken care of right off the bat.

Thanks brother! I'm getting it from a friend who just purchased it today via auction in Cali. Hes a VW dealer, they can't CPO can they?

How do you like your S4? Did you consider an S4 Avant before your purchase?

LOL. No they can't CPO it, which is a shame. At the end of the day it is the same company.

I did consider an Avant. The reason I went Sedan was the fact that I ended up with a Limited Edition car. I love it, and it is the best vehicle that I have ever purchased. Given today's prices I sometimes debate an RS4, but with the high miles I drive a year and the increased maintinence on the RS models, the S4 is the perfect car for me.

Whats so funny!?! hahaha

It was a good question though.., you never know. What year is yours? I like the new lights, but thats '09+ right? I love the grill on your car from your avatar pic. '06' differences versus the brand new ones are just lights right.. cosmetically?

The laughter? Because VW/Audi/Porsche are all one company. And when it comes to VW/Audi all of the diagnostic software is the same. So while the VW dealer can't CPO the car, he should be able to.

My car is a late '06 model. One of the 250 25Quattro (25Q) S4's that Audi had built by Quattro GmbH to celebrate 25 years of building Quattro AWD cars. It's an S4 with a bunch of cosmetic differences, and the first one to be fitted with the 40:60 AWD asymetrical AWD system.

The new lights are not available on the S4, as Audi isn't making an '09 S4. However, there are solutions. Aftermarket companies have been coming out with some very nice clones.

Those aren't available to the general public yet, but they will fit the B7 chassis and should be available in 2-3 months. Freaking sweet looking...

Looks good, I wise we had LEDs. Some folks have retro-fitted the S6 LED lights, but it is not exactly an OEM job...

Consider a B6/B7 A4 with stage 3 turbo it gets u to S4 power, weighs less and better gas consumption

and man nothing beats the sound of the turbo..just my .02
but there is some lag associated with this route

just left my local audi dealership and he was drooling over my s4 avant. He says the market for them right now is very strong which shocked me a little since I figured the go green movement has messed with everyones thoughts of what a car should be.

I may be selling mine in the coming year. Dont want to but Im thinking I may need a little more room with my 1.5 year old and another one in the works down the road.

Firstly hi to all on the 6 as this is my first post. To chime in, I had been looking for a 6MT S4 Avant for quite some time with very little luck. They are definitely in demand, the few that showed up were snatched quickly and not cheap.

I finally puckered up and shelled out for maybe the last brand new '08 6MT S4 Avant in the US. It is phantom black and I am loving it ! I'd been driving a 2000 passat 4-motion for almost 10 years, so this is a major upgrade. I'll quit with the hijacking now, but will be back. I have a lot of questions and need tons of advice!
