Wish that was the same scenario for the S4's..
I know, problem is I have to get rid of the CS first.
Another thing, I still have to decide whether to go for the '09 or just buy a CPO '06-'07.
'06 cars seem like a good value, although the prices are higher then a few months ago.

I just picked up a 2010 S4. Absolutely PHENOMINAL car. It shifts nearly as quickly as my Ferrari 430 Scuderia. *seriously*. I came from an S6 which I hated because of it's bipolar auto-tranny. The S4 is more playful, more responsive, faster and nearly as roomy inside. The 100 hp it loses on the S6 is easily made up by the fact that it's lugging around 800 Lbs less. There is marginal turbo/supercharger lag, but it's a fraction of a second and only comes into play if you're needing to drop down a cog or two for a sudden acceleration request.

I got $1300 off of list from my dealer. The S-tronic 7-speed is a must-have option on this car. The B&O sound system is fantastic, and the recent improvements to the 3rd-gen MMI are excellent. (Map display is highly detailed, faster, optionally in 3D. Comes with a built-in MP3 "jukebox", SD-card readers.)

An amazing car in all respects. I honestly can't think of anything to criticize about the car. There's great rear-seat room, and even a very large trunk. It's practical, comfortable, easy to live with, and scoots like crazy through the twisties.

personally i think its satisfiying for the price i paid. i got the sports package replacing the s4 wheels just because i liked them better, people differ. the 2.0t is alright stock i mean its plenty for a speed person, you get what you pay for. after you chip it with a chip that keeps warranty and the company that backs you your f'in set. i love it though only spent 2000 n chip then put hre's and no one tells that its a a4, only people that can tell are people who know that s4's have the quad exhaust

It is going to be a real interesting over the next couple of months. I am going to gamble on the fact that more dealers will be sitting on S4's coming into the winter season. I also hope Audi has winter of savings promo. Instead of ordering a car I would rather have my local dealer just trade for one in stock at another dealer. I want an S4 like yesterday, but want to be patient. If I did that with my 997 I could have saved another 5k at least.

I would rather have more options at a lower purchase price than fewer options at a higher price. I plan on leasing so for 3 years I don't want to have any regrets about not going with certain options.

This looks like it will be a great car. It will be interesting to see how low the prices will go compared to the B7 S4. Hopefully I can pick one up in 2-3 years for around 30.

I went through this logic too.

I was able to justify it to myself because the car I was holding onto, a 2008 S6, was depreciating at around $750/month. So, if I held onto it for another 6 months hoping for Audi and their dealers to get desperate enough to discount it by 5 or 6% I'd save $3600 on the new car and lose $4500 on my existing car.
Plus, the S4's are going to be selling like hotcakes. Audi aren't giving the dealers much in the way of allocations, and once people realize what a sweet little car this is, demand is only going to rise. Winter will only increase demand because of the Audi's AWD capabilities -- put some Blizzaks on the S4 and it would be unstoppable on the snow.
The only uncertainty is the economy; if "gloom and doom" cloud fails to dissipate then maybe Audi's sales of the S4 may warrant them getting aggressive with pricing.

But ... here's another emotional justification ... I will be gaining 6 months of my live being DELIRIOUSLY HAPPY with my car rather than "making do" with a car I hated ... you can't put a price on that...

BTW, I had a broker scouring the country for a vehicle with a spec I wanted, and I called at least half a dozen dealers near-and-far. Couldn't find a dealer in the country that was willing to go more than $1000 off of MSRP on this car, and when they did they were low-balling my trade. I got a very sweet deal from my local dealer.

That is the exact situation I was in with my Z06. I knew if I held out longer I could have really gotten an even better deal on my 997. Just got nervous watching the Z values plunge. Especially considering how seasonal they are.
Just sucks because my deal would have been even better had I waited a couple weeks.

That is why I lease my other car. No worries about selling car and taking a beating. I hold all the cards when it comes to leasing because my deals are always clean. Just negotiate best price and work the numbers. Maybe at one time cars held there value better, but not in this environment.

I hope you are wrong about S4 demand/pricing. I know it is a great winter car with snows that is why I want one. Just hoping because it is more sporting in nature than the A4 fewer people will be looking for them up north in winter months. Any way you cut it the auto industry is hurting. Porsche had a great September, but they were giving huge discounts as I said earlier. Also fewer people shop for cars in winter up here more SUV frenzy.

Only good news is that if I cannot get a deal done for an S4, a similarly equipped 535 xdrive leases a couple bucks cheaper a month and no security deposit.

I got one a few weeks ago, and I agree with everything you said! I can't wait to see what kind of hp numbers are available on this supercharged setup!

I think the word is getting out about this exceptional little car. My local dealer is now quoting a 5-6 month wait to get one.

An auto-trader search located about 25% of the cars in inventory of just a month or so ago... it's nice to see a "selling like hot-cakes" car flying off the shelves in this economy...

What color did you get? I have a 335 (sedan) which I love, but am thinking of making the move to the S4 for the AWD. I was considering an S5 and drove one from U-Audi, but was relatively unimpressed. I need to get in to drive the S4, as I hear it is more responsive than the S5 due to weight savings. I'll look for you around the "Castle"...I live in the Highlands.

I went with the Isis White, which was not my first choice because my Scuderia is white, and I like a little variety. But, I like it. If I had my druthers, I would've gone for the Phantom Black, or the dark metallic blue would probably have been my first choice.

Yeah - I am thinking Phantom Black myself. I assume you went with Barrier?

I don't think they are selling like hot cakes. Three of my local dealers (within 25 mile radius) had 7 cars between them a month ago. Two sold, five still available. Two cars in a month between 3 dealers is nothing IMO.

Also, keep in mind that supply was pretty low - not that many cars to choose from, and yet they didn't sell.
This car is not selling well

This car is not selling well
1. Everything is relative. In this economy, a 47-60k sedan selling at all is good.
2. Your local market is not the same as mine. My local dealer has sold all of their allocation for the next 6 months.
3. Your anecdotal story does not trump mine. The fact is that autotrader is now listing a quarter of the number of S4s available compared to just a few weeks ago when I was looking for one.

Are there some markets where they've got unsold inventory.. sure. So, your comment is only appropriate if you add ".. in my area" to your claim.
