Q7 - anyone own one, opinions?

I've been thinking of getting a Q7. I've only driven the 3.6 and think it's rather lame. I haven't driven the 3.0 TDI or the 4.2 FSI yet to compare. Anyone driven either version? Any opinions on them, things to look out for? And are there other SUVs out there worth considering? Kind of scared of the Cayenne after seeing some bills for brake jobs and nav/radio problems.

I have a 4.2 FSI with the S-Line package, and like it a lot for roominess, power, comfort, but I don't like the 6-speed automatic transmission. I think it is way too sensitive to upshift. Yes, there is a sport mode which holds gears longer, but that to me feels unnatural when driving it around. I would drive one around for a bit and see if you like it. It could just be me that is too picky about it.

We have had the v-6 for almost 2 years now. I wanted the v-8, but it was for the wife so we went with the v-6. I didnt like it at first, but after several long trips (Disney) Ive found it to be very comfortable. The v-6 transmission is better than the v-8 (according to everything Ive read) and the power is ok for the wife. It just had its first issue with the MMI control **** this week, which seems to be common and passenger side headlight just went out at 30k miles. Very happy overall just hoping that it doesnt have some of the electrical gremlins that Ive read about. Not much else to compare it to really, maybe the GL which my wife didnt like when we drove it. Good luck

Great SUV - we had a 4.2 for 3 years with no problems at all. Probably would have leased another one had the terms been better.

Just ordered a 2011 Q7 TDI with everything. The 8 speed transmission put me over the decision point. Oh yea, 198,000 miles on my A8 helped me decide as well... Delivery next month. Dark blue with expresso leather.. I had to have the vented seats here in North Carolina so that required the luxury package. The TDI's hold their value much better than the gas ones do...

I just bought out my leased V8 SLine and we love it. It could use a little more power, but what couldn't use more power?

Have a q7 4.2 from 2007. Spacious for 4-5 adults but 3rd row seats are too tiny for anyone to use. Didnt have any issues with it until got into a small fender bender and the air suspension crapped out on me !! costs an arm and a leg to fix. The electronics inside the car hold up quite well, except for the occasional bug which was fixed for free from the dealership. Cant handle any off-road use maybe a flat dirt road but thats pushing it.

Handling is good not exceptional, brakes are responsive but mine squeal like crazy and the dealership cant fix it..they tell me its a common problem because Audi uses brake pads with metal fillings for better performance

hope this helps.Good luck
