Mazda Laguna Seca
Mazda Laguna Seca
Just got back from a track event with NCRC -- my first time out to this track, and my best session I was running laps consistently 2:03-2:05 which is only mediocre, but I was pretty happy (earlier the same day I ran over 2:20, so it was a big improvement).
I managed to boil the power steering fluid and pop a line off.... in the middle of the corkscrew! Very scary to suddenly lose power steering there. The clamp was still intact, so I got the hose back on and ran to the local VW dealer to pick up the "mineral hydraulic" magic sauce it requires.
Also, while the brakes (Porterfield pads, otherwise stock) held up just fine at Buttonwillow, they were definitely not up to the punishment of Laguna's overall much higher speeds, so a big brake kit is definitely on my list for 2010. I also did not intend to run my street wheels/tires at the track, but there was a fiasco with UPS that led to my tires not showing up on time, so I had to leave the other wheels at home. Just another reason to come back soon. =P

don't feel bad...cracking two minutes when you are new to LS is not that easy...Jeremy Clarkson (Top Gear) barely broke two minutes (1:58+) after all day on the track in a prepared Nissan NXS...get some good instruction and you will be 10 seconds faster in the same car...have fun
