The GTR is obviously a lot more passion/excitement, trading off ease of getting my kid in the back seat, some comfort items, and another $15k or so (used).

S4s with drive-select, decent color, and s-tronic are somewhat sparse in my area, but a GTR in the 65-70k range are very rare, so I'd have to ship one here. Obvious downsides to that - probably another $1-2k plus having the wait, and not seeing the car before dropping a whole lot of money.

I have a S2000 as my other car and plan on keeping it (it's why i'm only looking for dual-clutches right now).

What do you guys think? I know it's a funny unique situation, but need some help making a decision (considering fun, looks, depreciation, up front cost, blah blah blah). I know it's largely subjective, but just want some perspective

Thanks in advance!
If you can live with a sports sedan then the S4 is at the top of the heap right now. I have one and am quite happy with it. However, you are going to be in the $50's, and if it's your time for a true sports car, that could put you in a lower mileage, mid 2000's 996TT. Slipping junior in the back will take a little effort but you would have a Porsche icon at less than half of the original cost. Have one and driving it is a rush. You can't loose either way.

Dave - if you could had to build to having a S4 and GTR, which one would you get first if you were in my shoes? I'm thinking GTR then S4 in a year or so, but maybe that's not the right order. I don't typically buy new, so the premium for a S4 is not something I feel 100% about.

I just sold my B8 last week and my boy just sold his GTR a month ago...GTR hands down unless you need room. my 2 cents, get a 2008-2009 S5. you will be much happier!

I really think it comes down to how your going to use it. If you need a car that can go to the hardware store and also be able to go out to dinner with 3 other adults in, then it's the S4 , get that 1st. The GT-R is a fantastic car but I wouldn't call it practical. Although I can use it everyday, it really is my 'fun' car

I think he had a 911 Turbo before... but grew bored of it?

Had a 997S, not a turbo, but was great for 2 years! It's down to these two cars only although I shudder everytime I see those S5s. Wish they had it in S-Tronic!

My daughter is less 1.5 years old so fit shouldn't be an issue, but kind of crazy to think of the GTR as a daily with a car seat in it. HAHA - will probably have to get rid of the S2K and get the S4 or something similar soon after, I guess.

Man - never had this much trouble making a car decision - normally, the new wheels would be in my garage by now.

Talking

Seeing as most of us here (in the Audi section ) think you should get a new S4... designate the S4 as 'heads' and the GTR as 'tails'... Find yourself a quarter and flip that sucker!

Let gravity and physics decide for you.

I did the coin flip twice and it came out S4 both times even though I REALLY wanted it to be tails for GTR. Guess you were right todd1010

That means that you should get the GTR. Cars are not logical things (otherwise we'd all be driving Civics)--so if your emotions say GTR--then you should get a GTR.
Plus, you already have a 5-series.

Yep - 5 series will be turned back in July.

GTR deal fell through - and it appears that prices on GTRs are going UP.....and there isn't a S4 with drive select and s-tronic anywhere near me....so maybe i'm adding the M3 to my mix (with DCT coupe only)....

Why not consider a used M6 if you're considering M3?
