Two deposits for Audi R8? Please let me know.

I have an order on an R8 V10. The Audi dealer called me and said that usually they take one $5k deposit for the order and another $5k for when it goes into production? Is there any truth to that? I just want to be certain it isn't BS.

I made the first deposit using my Amex, so if I have any issues I will do a chargeback and get that money back in 24 hours no questions. But I still want to be certain to avoid complications.

I should clarify I'm not the one getting. My brother is, but I am the one in charge of the purchase.

It sounds like somebpdy is trying to buy you out and the dealer is gauging how high they can make you jump. I hope you and the dealership have already agreed on the price before you made your 1st deposit. To me, that's the whole idea of putting a deposit, so you dont have to go on a bidding war once the car comes in, even if someone else has a higher offer. Just make sure all your deposits gets credited towards the car. Goodluck.

When I ordered mine way before they came out (the V8,) I had a $1K deposit down for like 1.5 years, then $2.5K or $5K more when I finalized specs. Pretty sure all were refundable, but I was buying anyway and set at MSRP so didn't care.

I'd say 2 deposits it's unreasonable. $5K seems a bit much considering it's not a hard car to get anymore. No big deal really unless they aren't refundable and you aren't paying stick at most.

I think this is just an excuse for them to get $10K of cash into their bank account way before your car is here. I understand a token deposit to show that you are serious, but collecting deposit along the way is not right.

I put down a deposit for v8 and was told 1.5 to 2 years wait back in 08, the car got here in less than 7 months. I am not in the market for v10, so I wouldn’t know how hard is it to get one, but I doubt cars over $100K are flying off the showroom in this economy. Look at all the Turbo S that are in all the dealers.

Yeah, I agree with what most said here... When I was shopping for an R8, I was asked to put down $5k (same for the GT-R). This guaranteed my allocation #. But a second deposit? I still wouldn't care, though, as long as it goes towards the purchase (and is refundable, or transferable).

I've heard of $1k down and then another $4k when it goes to production. This seems excessive.

Yeah. I'm going to give them a visit. I also think this is a little silly. I'll give them a second deposit if they want it that bad, but not 5k. Maybe 1K or 2K

I think the big issue is just make sure that the deposit either goes towards the purchase, or is refundable (or something in the middle).

Good luck! Let us know what happens!

it is still wrong even if there is a long line at the door, and I doubt there is. Why would one park $10K somewhere else for months if not years

Well, the car will be here in October. It's already in production. We told them we'd give them another 2K only. Got a copy of the new invoice that shows $5k + $2k as a down payment/deposit toward the car.
