'10 A5/S5 380mm Brembo Brake Upgrade

After adding plenty of go to our Project A5 it was time to focus on getting it stopped. The current setup we were running at the time was doing ok on the street but when the car was taken to the track they just couldn't deal with the added stress, heat and repeated hard stops. So to deal with these issues a Brembo Big Brake kit was ordered in for up front. This kit is designed with the S5 in mind, but with our Project A5 the idea was to hit S5 performance so stepping up to the bigger brakes was a no brainer. The front 320mmx30mm rotors were replaced with two piece 380mmx32mm Brembo rotor and the stock calipers were replaced with a set of six piston Brembo units. The advantage of the larger rotors is it gives more area to dissipate heat and the cooler the brakes stay the better they will work with less brake fade. On top of that the Brembo kit is also lighter than the stock calipers and rotors. The factory calipers w/brackets weigh 17.06lbs compared to 12.66lbs of the Brembos and even being 60mm bigger and 2mm wider the each Brembo rotor is almost a half pound lighter that the stock rotors (Brembo 20.96lbs/stock 21.24lbs). The kit comes with all the brackets and hardware to install the kit and use it every day. After installing the kit the car was taken for a test drive however while driving we noticed that the pedal was a bit lower than we would like. The car came back inside and the brake pedal stop was adjusted back to allow the pedal more travel. After doing this a few times to get the feeling just right the car was taken for a bit more aggressive test drive to test the brakes. Finding the proper words to describe the new added stopping power of the Brembo brakes is hard to come up with. I think the main reason is trying to remember things while your brain is being smashed to the front of you skull is a hard thing to do.

Starting point

Everything off, caliper bracket installed

Rotors installed

All together

Now for the question that we've been getting ever since installing the brakes, yes they do clear our street and track wheels. It is a tight fit but they do clear and have been used on the track a few times since installing.

With wheel on
