2013 ECU Flash for S4

Stasis just put me on notice that the ECU flash for my 2013 S4 will produce 417hp/390tq. Anyone think these numbers are legit, such as has anyone used an S4 flash on a previous model from them and had a dyno done to verify the claim?

Those numbers are realistic. These cars are very receptive to power upgrades. We do APR on B8 S4s and man, every single one we did breathes fire on the road.

Stay tuned on audizine... A bunch of people have their cars in for the stasis tune for the B8.5s. Won't be long before someone gets on a dyno.

Dyno numbers are only meaningful as a delta. Find a local yocal dragstrip near you that has a "test and tune" night or afternoon. It is dirt cheap and you will get print outs that give 60', halfway (either 330' for 1/8th or 660' for 1/4) and final times and trap speeds. This is a real measure of power, and with a tune it should be easy to do before and after. Also peak numbers are meaningless, it is the area under the curve... either way you should be good to go but don't look for a dyno to validate your purchase, unless you just crave an arbitrary validation/invalidation.

A dyno is just a drum with known inertial load that extrapolates an estimate of power and there are so many variables used to calculate that estimate that most dyno operators have no clue about providing a false sense of certainty. A mustang is better as it is actual electric load (resistance) but you are still not in real world conditions, which may make your actual realized delta skewed up (CAI) or down (positive pressure intake)

And even with the before and after, all you are getting is what your car does strapped down in a garage with a fan blowing on it (hopefully with the hood closed for it to be even useful data). How often do you drive your car in your garage?

If you want a meaningful metric of performance increase, measure actual performance with actual conditions of airflow and heat soak in the real world.

Just playing devils advocate here and busting ***** a bit.

A dyno is better than nothing, but a controlled functional test is better.

Probably going to buy a new 2013 S4 in the next week or so, where is a reputable place to have this type of performance upgrade, what is the approximate cost?

Now that there are stage 2 tunes available you should consider that. APR and GIAC both have stage 2 tunes with pulley upgrades available for significant power increase.

You can contact either manufacturer and they can direct you to your closest dealer. Or see if your dealer is a Stasis dealer and get the tune done through them if you would like to maintain warranty. Some have reservations as to how the Stasis (revo) tune plays with timing/knock sensor and other things that could have adverse effects in hot weather.

You should join www.audizine.com , there is tons of information there.

Thanks AKPS for your informative answer. I believe my dealer is a Stasis dealer actually, so that is helpful. Thanks again and I will check out audizine.

No problem. Any thoughts on what color, options, etc you are going for?

I love the look of the '13s and the flat bottom steering wheel they come with. Too bad i got my '12 in a hurry lol.

Definitely a manual transmission, not too heavy on the options as it is "just" my winter car so I don't drive my 911 in the winter. Probably just the Bang & Olufsen system. My dealer did a search and there are 2 or 3 equipped the way I like in the country so I may have to move quickly as a custom 2014 S4 build would likely not arrive until January -- too late for me in a Cleveland, OH winter. I drove the automatic trans and enjoyed the feel of the car and steering. Also like the flat bottom steering wheel. I had a 2006 A4 and really appreciate the streamlining design of the current dashboard area as opposed to 2006.

If you add to the mix that we have OBD2 flashing, program switching and DSG options, your choice should be narrowed down to GIAC pretty easily.

You don't maintain a warranty, FYI. You're given an aftermarket warranty that only current Stasis dealers will warranty. If your dealer drops them, they can drop your warranty coverage too.
