2008 Audi S5 with APR Stage III Supercharger kit, DXD Clutch, Brembo brakes, and more

An Audi S5 is a great car, but everything is better with forced induction! To test that statement on this S5, we installed APR's supercharger kit and we were not disappointed. To make sure the additional power wouldn't result in a prematurely worn out clutch, we installed a DXD clutch disk with a new OE pressure plate.

All that new power, there was no way brakes weren't on the checklist. Brembo was the first place to go. They're used on the street and across motor sports so for a car that is used for both daily driving and tracking, they're a perfect choice.

We have a little extra go, a little extra stop. All that was left was a little extra show. But with a car as gorgeous as the S5, where is there any room for improvement? The answer, of course, was wheels. We set this Audi up with some BBS CH-Rs and it is now beautifully prepared for anything.

Parts Installed:
Audi S5 Supercharger Stage 3 Kit
Audi B8 S4/S5 Stage 3 Endurance Clutch Disc
Audi S4/S5 Front (B8) 6-piston 380x32 2-Piece Big Brake Gran Turismo Kit by Brembo
Audi S5 Rear (B8) 4-piston 380x28 2-Piece Big Brake Gran Turismo Kit by Brembo
BBS CH-R Titanium

To the build!

First things first, getting all the parts out of the box and ready to go.

The 44lb chunk of aluminum that nets this car a 150hp gain! For the record, it is only a 26lb increase over the stock manifold.

A before shot of sorts

Tearing it down

The stock manifold sitting next to the APR supercharger

Now the real fun begins. Its time to get the supercharger in place.

Supercharger is in and time for assembly

The holes drilled for the supercharger coolant hoses

Intercooler installed

Electric water pump and coolant hoses all installed

Bumper back on and it's all finished

During the supercharger installation, we discovered that this engine had a severe carbon build up in the intake ports. This is a common problem in direct injection engines since there is no fuel in the intake to wash away the deposits as they form. The only way to completely clean these ports is to remove the cylinder heads which is approximately 30 hours of labor that starts with removing the engine from the car. But by carefully manually cleaning the ports with solvents and dentistry tools, we removed the vast majority of the build up.

To show you just how bad this issue can be, here's some shots of the cylinders before cleaning.

Slow and careful cleaning

And after cleaning

With this finished, looking a lot better, and the supercharger installed, we were good to move on to the next steps.

Clutch and Brakes

Each DXD clutch is designed to match specific styles and for this S5, we chose endurance. A great option for cars that see track time in the form of longer racing styles, it was developed with APR Motorsport to support their efforts in Grand-Am road racing. The Endurance configuration focuses on reduced transmission wear and perfect transitions from gear to gear. Track time aside, it works wonders for a car with high power that needs a clutch that will keep up with it for the long haul.

The stock versus the new DXD

And speaking of track time, high power and long hauls, we can't neglect something as important as the brakes. Brembo is a trusted brand and we see quite a lot of big brake kits come through our doors. This Audi will definitely put them through their paces, both on and off the track. Not to mention, they look pretty great too.

Stock brakes

When sitting side by side, there is definitely a noticeable difference

Brembos installed

This Audi was almost complete. Wheels are a usual go-to when its time to personalize your ride on the outside. Having seen this style BBS wheel on our shop A5, this customer wanted some for his S5. In the titanium finish, we think they're an excellent way to complete this project.

Wow that carbon build up is pretty nasty!!! Any way to prevent or treat without pulling the manifolds?

Car looks amazing! Any power numbers or 60-130 times?
