Purchasing first Audi

Hello everyone,
I am in the market for a new car and was thinking of a 2004 Audi S4. I have never owned an Audi before and heard they are expensive to repair and maintain. I have found two S4’s both in good condition, and properly maintained. One Audi has 83k miles and the other has 52k on it. My question is how reliable are these cars and will a timing chain break relatively soon. Don’t want to spend thousands to fix it months after purchasing a car. Any advice would be much appreciated!
Thank you very much!

Typically chains start to be come an issue (more specifically, the chain guides) as you approach 100K mileage-wise. We have seen some get into the 120K-140K range before they start to make noise, but we have also seen some pop at 70K and 80K. The preventative timing chain service is an engine-out situation that will typically run you $6000-$7000 depending on where you live/local shop rates. If it were me, I would hold out until your budget could afford a 3.0TFSI B8/B8.5 S4 (2010 and up).

Just budget $1000 for every repair. How much driving do you plan on doing?
