R8 V10 vs V12 Vantage
R8 V10 vs V12 Vantage
Years ago I owned both a V12 Vantage and an R8V10. Both 6 speed cars.
The R8 was a fantastic car, a very good daily driver, it had that wonderful V10 out back, a gated shifter and a wonderful view out front, but unless you gave it some serious gas, it was docile compared to the V12.
For me the Aston was just the more feral experience. It gave me the bigger rush, even though it had the more traditional layout and was wearing a tuxedo.
Years later both cars are holding their value. The big engine + 6 speed formula is still a winner. Funny how these two very different cars are loved for their huge motors, superb 6 speeds and much maligned for their semi-automatics.
The R8 might have actually shed less of its original value (its close). They are within 10-20k of each other, but I think the price spread was much higher when new. The R8GT is actually holding its value well, even with that R-Tronic.
Any predictions on how they do in the long run. What car is going to be more collectable?

I am a big believer that the R8 V10 manual will become very desirable. It's truly the perfect combination in terms of performance and heritage. The R8 was Audi's halo car, similar to the Acura NSX. Most importantly, the build quality is exceptional. The Aston is beautiful, however they are known for their quirks are issues. I do plan on owning the Aston that you are describing when the market bottoms. Problem is, there is still a lot of depreciation left. I feel the R8 will bottom in the low to mid 90's. For reference, take a look at the prices of 6-speed manual Gallardo's.
Just a quick thought...I good portion of the Vantages available with the V12 are probably, now, the 'S' version with the dogleg 7-speed manual. That might be a draw, or a bit of a turn-off. A 6sp V12 Vantage might turn out to be more of a rarified and valuable niche car than would otherwise have been the case..
