Just Drove S6
Just Drove S6
I just test drove the 2007 S6.
My thoughts:
Appearance is Awesome except I thought the wheels looked terrible for the car--they belong on a Hyundai Tiburon. The rear 4 tailpipes looks great, front fenders tubbed out a litttle compared to the A6. Front end looks awesome.
Interior is Amazing, The absolute best seats I have ever sat in for a daily sport/sedan car. SImply amazing. Steering wheel is a little different than the A6, carbon fiber center console, door trim, some S6 badging. You sit and control the car perfectly in this setup. Better than the A6 and nothing like the huge A8.
Performance: the new engine sounds and revs AWESOME!!! The power was extremely strong, not as aggressive off the line as I thought it would, but it moved fast up the RPM. I couldnt abuse it bad because the Sales Manager was with me. But he's a friend so he let me have some fun. I drove the my porsche to the dealer so maybe thats why the S6 didnt feel insanely fast. OVerall it performed extremely well and looked great. It just didnt have whip of the new M5.
Also, the other thing I didnt like was the SM told me that these are NOT going to be limited in production.
BUT, if you put a nice wheel on this car, it would be PERFECT. Oh yeah, the exterior 10 Cylinder badging looked awesome!
Audi is really starting to make a mark!!

The only problem with the S6 (historically) is that they hold their value the worst of all S cars (%-wise). I definitely would want the S6 over an RS4 excluding that tidbit. More car for the money - it's just that the RS badge will ensure good resale.
I've heard that an RS6 is coming along with the full-fat Gallardo (Pre-SE) engine. That should be something...

IMO it's a gerat car in every part...yes the wheels are not the best ones but still pretty good looking. With 435 hp it won't race an M5 but you don't need that, I suppose...
I saw both Coupè and SW and I prefer the Coupè.
Anyway the rear end of the Avant is just awesome!

Ever drive an RS6 or E39 M5? How does this compare?
The reason that the S6 has had horrendous resale historically is that in the US it has only been available in an Avant (wagon). Also the RS = good resale assumption is one that may prove false. There were only 2,500 2003 RS6's shipped to the US, but the new one will not be a limited production vehicle. The RS4 is still in its infancy and consequently no conclusions about resale can be drawn yet.

I have driven the RS6.
I love the RS6. The RS6 performance felt much faster and responsive.
The problem I may have had with the S6 test drive is I drove my Porsche to the dealer, so when I drove the S6 it felt a little slow. Had I driven the Rover to the dealer, who knows how it would have felt.
