I don't know of a release date (I've heard summer 2007), but there are most definitely waiting lists. Check some of the other R8 posts in this section for more details (specs on first 200 cars, etc.).

your best bet is to wait for someone to sell it after they come out... (of course you'll pay a much higher dollar)

but you should also think about waiting until they've been out for a bit to ensure they have no issues.... and also remember the other post about the first 200 not having a lot of options.

Just spoke to my dealer today who has an OPEN allotment on the R8.

They also have a beautiful Ibis White RS4 with 2k miles for sale.

It's one of 6 made in that color for 07.

If you're interested, reach out to Allan @ (201) 758-1600.

Just to give you guys a little bit of an update.. Called a couple of dealers around the area asking about the R8. 1st they said Audi needs to preauthorize every dealer in the country to sell the R8 since most of them dont have the capabilities to service, repair or whatever reason Audi gave them. Continued to say that he is not aware of anyone in MA area that is currently authorized to sell the car. He said that once they build their new dealership which will be ready in a year he expects to be the first dealership in MA to be authorized to sell the car. 2nd the car will be sold based on market price not sticker. 3rd if i pay a deposit right now i should expect to wait at least a year to get delivery of the car due to the limited production or unless I buy someones spot. 4th he said he expected the v10 to be publicly released in around 1.5 yrs or so.

I was #2 on the list and ordered mine this week...... the salesperson said he was told they are going to build 600-800 for calander year 2007 and my dealership had 34 people on the list. He was in vegas and drove the car along side a 997, DB8 and SL550 and said the interior space was awesome as well as the drive ability of the car............ Went with Grey pearl metallic/carbon blades/ black full leather int, nav and auto..... 130+ when all is said and done not including gas guzzle and deliv...... the illuminated engine bay is way cool!!!!!!

600-800 cars is waaay off from everything I have heard thus far. Most figures point to a production total of around 200 for 2007. And ahmed, give inskip audi a call down in RI. I can get you the number of the salesperson we use. They have at least 2-3 allocations that I know of and they probably can get more because they are huge.

600+ is worldwide production for calander yr 07........ They had 8 cars in Vegas for press and dealers, if there were 8 in the US + auto show cars + whatever worldwide why would u think 200 could be anywhere close considering the orders?????? I should get delivery before fall, dealers were asked to send all orders ASAP which tells me they are ready to roll. He said there were not going to be any launch cars.....

I am not sure were you were in Vegas but there were more than 50 R8's between the Valley of Fire driving and LV Motor Sports Park units. Most of the cars were numbered and I saw numbers higher than 50. In addition to the Las Vegas units (which were moved to Phoenix for the International Dealer Launch) there were R8 units at Atlanta for the TT Launch and the units which are on tour for the Auto Shows. In total, there are more than 100 R8's in the US which cannot be sold as they are all pre-production. They will all go back to Necharsulm and likely be destroyed after motor pool usage.

The UK/European allocation for the 2007 build is 440 units and the US allocation is 200 units. There has been some AoA conversation of an additional 100 units for the US late in 2007 but that has not been resolved. UK/European deliveries will begin in late April/May with US deliveries slated to begin in September.
