S4 auto. Who has one?
Looking for pros and cons from owners of current S4 automatics. I drove one in 2004-5 and remember it being pretty good. My wife will drive it occassionally so no stick. Our current DD is 545i auto with sport package and no reel beefs with it. TIA
6speed member "boochook" has a nice white S4 tiptronic for sale. I'm sure he'll give you details if you shoot him a PM.
It's a really torquey motor, so the tiptronic doesn't hurt it too much in everyday driving. It'd be a great commuter/road tripper.

I like torquey motors but have found some of Audi's transmissions lazy in the past. I don't care for hesitation after hitting the gas. I doubt I'll play with the tiptronic since I've never enjoyed anything but a manual for shifting on your own. That may change as double-clutch systems evolve.

The tiptronic tranny (slushtronic/chicktronic) is great for a DD, especially if you don't like working out your left foot. The only down side is, that it kills the driving factor of the S4, at least IMHO. I also think that its a great fit for most woman and they thoroughly enjoy the fact that they can shift semi-manually if they choose too. Flipping through the gears is sometimes fun and at least you can control the shift points to some extent. $.02
I'm over the slushbox, chicktronic, etc., etc. b/c when I need the hair on my chest to stand up and exercise for my left leg the Turbo comes out. I'm looking for a sedan DD that isn't plain vanilla and keeps some fun in driving.
Red Devil - The Audi S4 Tip is really good. The S mode gives it a quicker response. Regular drive mode is fairly smooth. I prefer manuals, but I wanted a car that my wife and I could drive. It's a fantastic daily driver. The paddles on the steering wheel made it more fun to drive when it's in the S mode. FWIW, the S4 is pretty darn quick.
Mine's for sale if you're interested in getting one that's taken the depreciation hit. I'm selling because I just bought another sports car (AMV8) and a minivan for my wife, I have an older Lexus, and we don't need another daily driver.

Thanks for the input Bobby but I have to get a test drive before I'd consider buying one. Good luck with the AM as they are some of the best-looking cars on the road. I've been seeing more DB9s around here than V8s and they are calling out to me in a big way. JAS, coming from someone with some "real" sports cars at his disposal, your liking of the S4 carries some weight.
my colleague owned both a b5 S4 (stick) and a b7 S4 (tip) at the same time until he decided to sell the b5. his decision was based purely on his new commute as he had moved a bit further away from work. he absolutely loves the b7 S4 tip for this purpose and couldn't be happier. he and i (rs4) have driven the streets together and let me tell you his car is pretty darn fast and sounds great, stock. having said that he's installing a Labree exhaust in the weeks to come. he and his fiancee switch between this car and their M3 coupe. it's a great setup for them.
I own a B7 S4 tip.... I've never driven a 6speed S4 so I couldn't give opinion on it, but S4 tip is a great car. I've owned s2000 before this and I love the torque...coming from a honda it's hell of a jump in terms of torque.
