scott,

i found my oem short shifter on ebay from braman porsche.
here is a similar link http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...e=STRK:MEWA:IT

they always go for 300.00, which is quite fair.
b&m sell for 200.00
i wanted oem , so the extra 100.00 is well worth it.
if you call them i am sure they will do the deal for 300.00.
although they seem to relist every few days.

this kit comes with plastic bracket, so the install is quite easy.
good luck

roy

Since the two shifters are exactly the same mechanically, and made by the same company, warranty issues would never be a problem.

Dock, Not to be argumentative, but there has been one case reported on this board where an owner was required to remove the B&M before a trans related problem would be warranted. I do understand the concern about keeping as much as possible OEM. I also understand that warranty is a function of the individual dealer and the relationship one has with that dealer.

In my case I have an excellent relationship and don't think such an issue would ever come up. Others are not as fortunate (or as forceful) and may seek comfort in OEM accessories

b&m states 40% shorter than stock

The B&M site advertises this...""Stock Porsche shifter has 35% longer travel than the B&M Porsche shifter."

The Porsche Short Shift Kit Installation Instructions (from Porsche) say this..."The shift travel will be shortened by 37%."

Porsche doesn't want to advertise the exact same numbers as B&M because it would be too obvious then that the shifters were the same, and people would buy the cheaper B&M shifter. Also, the actual measurement of the total shift distance reduction is not an exact science.

You are wrong.

B&M is considered a non-factory part. The Porsche branded short shifter is considered a factory part. You may think the Porsche label being the only difference is trivial, however it is not in the eyes of the dealership.

My dealership requires a B&M shifter be removed prior to any transmission work.

Please tell me what is difference is *mechanically* between the two.

What in the world would removing the B&M shifter have to do with the dealer being able to do warranty work on the transmission? Either they believe the B&M caused the problem (but how could it) and would deny the warranty work, or they would rightly know that the B&M would have nothing to do with the problem and removing it would be a waste of time.

If my dealer told me I had to remove my B&M shifter before transmission warranty work, I'd call the Porsche regional Tech Rep immediately. There's no way I'd remove it, and there's no way I'd let them get away with not fixing the transmission under warranty.

The gears in the transmission do not know how far you had to move your hand to accomplish the shift.
