Actually gang I want to chime in on the SMG (God I never thought I would do this). It is really nice. I have been a stick guy all my life. And thought the SMG was a toy to say the least. Well I am here to tell you that it really is useful AND shifts fast and better than I could. I drove one for a few hours and hated it. Really. But then I got to drive one for a few days and once you figure out what it is doing it really is useful. I drive mine as a daily driver so I use it in all sorts of situations. The "automatic" mode is not that great but I only use it when I am on the phone, eating a hamburger and drinking a coffee
.
So before you knock it (an lord knows I did) give it a real world try, not just a test drive.
Just my .02 worth.

I for one didn't like SMG because it wasn't raw feeling like the manual and didnt feel like it had any pull to it, i for one cant say i like it but others swear by it, personal preference

Marc
If I could have two cars I owuld have the M3 for daily and the 996 for other daily driving
But alas I am not a rich man thus it is one or the other.
The SMG is really nice around town. But my friend picked up a 01 996 a few weeks back and it gave me da itch again. The sound and handling is more "fun" in the PCar.
BTW: My wife is driving the 04.5 Red Jetta still, and loving it.
