Thats any race engine, it runs as expected (no knocking, smells, and red lines fine). Every engine is going to wear and slowly degrade with use, whats the expected longevity out of one of these "built" street engines? typically on a racing engine I expect 20-30 hours, though I have had fresh engines blow on with in a couple hours of use, so you never really know. what would be the equevilent usage out of a "built" street engine?
I have used several different engine builders over the years, depending class of car, and been happy with 98% of them.
Sorry, my m3 is not for sale (yet?) That may change when I get a similar HP 911.
I'd expect a ~1000 hp 911 with a built engine to last as long as its weakest link allows. I grenaded two engines a dozen years ago in my 500whp M52 318ti back when that was a lot of power. I learned a lot. Lucky for me, I was starting a BMW salvage yard, and could throw an engine together rather cheaply. The last engine I built for that car was about 10 years and 25,000 (HARD) miles ago. I have hundreds of 1/4 mile passes on that car, sometimes running race gas and a lot of boost. I don't go all-out for an hour on a twisty track with my cars. I did a couple HPDEs with the ti but turned the boost down for that. Still going strong.
Tune is everything with any car at these levels. Second to that, is fueling components. If you run any built engine lean at WOT, that will likely be its last pull. Be it, it's fifth pull of five thousandth.
I drove my 870 whp e46 m3 to Atco NJ last fall. Made 4 passes. Dove it home to PA. That's what I'd expect from a built engine 996. However... I'm already shopping copart/iaa for spare parts =)
p.s. Does anyone know anything about this car? https://www.ebay.com/itm/2001-Porsche-911-Twin-Turbo-996/254563436228?hash=item3b4529c6c4:g:j9YAAOSwpIVejSs O

if it’s the yellow spoolbus , tim built that car originally , their 996 and 997 engines. Not sure if he still does .hes probably one of the best engine builders in the country .

I haven't driven the car enough towards it's upper limits, but it is so well managed. My m3 has similar power, but is a wild ride. The 996 just feels so planted. Every time I drive the car, I am amazed at the engineering behind it. It handles better, but the ride is also better. I have to be focused if I'm getting on the m3 to keep it going in the direction I want. The 996 just wants you to test it further. I don't feel even close to it's limit. It's a comfortable rocket. Juts have to make more time to drive it!
Thank you Carmelo. I wish you the best with your next car! I look forward to seeing it when it's done.
