Perhaps you forget the crazy dot-com days of the Z8, E39 M5, even the E46 M3 when new.
There is someone out there who will pay the premium I'll bet. Problem is, that guy doesn't look at car forums, so how do you advertise to him? He walks into the dealership and pays what they they tell him to, with a grand or so off 'market adjustment' price.

 

If you look around other BMW stores around the country some prices are as high as 45k over sticker some are lower, I bought this car for a customer and he backed out. The 10k was the cost of the car when taxes were paid and transportation expense.

 

Sir Speedy- why did you buy a car for someone else? Why pay sales tax when the buyer will have do pay again when reg the car?

 

We had the tax credit from the customers previous trade,my home office is in Mo. and are state tax reciprocated with his state so we would have gotten the reimbursment back once the deal was done. I am a dealer and when someone signs a buyers order and is a previous customer of many years you do the deal so your client is happy. " Sometimes you win sometimes you loose"
