Hey Fabryce,

I was told that these wouldn't work on a Turbo because the over all tire diameter front to rear (25.6-front & 26.3-rear) is off by too much (more than half an inch) and would thus fry the center diff coupling no?

Colby

We have run these on several turbos and have NEVER had an issue.

I thought with the tire diameters front to rear off by more than half an inch the center diff coupling would fry. Apparantly this is not a problem though.

The OEM tire sizes (F:225/40-18, R:295/30-18) yields a ~0.48% dia. difference

These RAs (F:245/40-18, R:305/35-18) yields a 2.73% dia difference

I would imagine the varying rolling diameter of the tire under load would be close to this dia difference.

I think it is a valid question. I know for STi's this was not a problem. I ran similar setups on those AWD cars. Good excuse to convert to RWD !

Revs per mile is 790 on the rears and 812 on the fronts, so the differential will be running constantly to handle the mismatch.

I have no direct experience, but reports of overheat and diff failure have been posted here- commonly folks say 0.3" is the most you should run- these tires are 0.7" different.

What would your opinion be on the maximum difference an AWD can tolerate? It would definitely open up tire choices if a larger difference can be run safely.

I have been running the Hoosiers R6's for almost a year now (315/30/18 and 245/35/18). According to their web site, the difference in Diameter front to rear is .9". I haven't had any problems yet, but maybe I have been lucky so far... I was thinking the max difference was an inch, not 1/2 inch. Woops!
