wtb. lookin for an 01-05 996 turbo engine
A pothole? An it didn't damage the wheels, rear end, etc, etc? Man....
I actually broke a wheel on 680 over by Pleasanton,CA ... took pictures, sent it to the state with a claim for a new wheel. They paid me!
I'd never rely on what insurance says. Your policy may consider road hazards differently that collision. And you can always make a claim of say $15k and not total it! Remember, they are not on your side.

What year is the car? What is it worth with the present mileage and an original engine? With a salvaged title and 20+k in your pocket, where is the down side considering the ability of these cars to lose their value. With a new motor and a documented paper trail, I would think you would be in a safe zone financially. Run all the numbers there are 996 turbos on Cars.com in the low $30's to the $70's and I bet "all" are negotiable.
Good luck whatever you decide.
