I'm pretty sure this will fit. I think the 997 SSK will fit a 996 so the standard 997 shifter should also fit a 996. I would give the folks at Suncoast Porsche a call, they will be able to give you a more definitive answer.

It fits 996. I just installed one on my 996 gt3. It is shorter than 996 shifter.

 

it fits I've installed one on my 996tt..

 

It fits, many guys installed it on their 996TT.
