yep mine is faster
... or at least it should be since the mods have been done...that's why I want to get into the strip, we know what the 65's with tune and DRs run and maybe some exhaust or intake tweaks, we hope to use those as a benchmark for my car.
Mark is 100% right on the service warranty...get one, for sure. repairs are in the thousands each time., no doubt. Maintainance and operations costs on the MB are higher than the Porsche.
hope this helps.

a healthy SL65 stock on DRs can do 11.3-11.4 with a hard launch. magazine times were 11.6 i think. its a very heavy car. none the less it would be a lot, it looks fantastic. you can also put a few k into and convert the front/rear end to the new facelifted SL headlights/hood/fenders.
def spend a few k and egt the warranty or the repairs can ruin your ownership experience. a month after i got my E55, throttle body broke and it was a 1000$ for a brand new TB, which is very very similar to porsche one. i got a 75mm porsche TB for 240$ lol for the 996tt

^^^ you will love the SL 55 it's a GREAT long distance grand tourer and has tons of grunt and torque all over the place...and the hardtop roof that folds down is perfect on nice nights!!! It's been one of the best cars I've ever owned. I have drivin it on the drag strip, out to dinner at nice places, great for dates, cruising on nice evenings in the summer...AND driven her across the country...TWICE (once out there and once backl)! from Maryland to Phoenix then to LA and back... drove well over a thousand miles several times in one day and never got tired...it's an amazing car

Don't do blowers...only turbos...
^^^ SL 65 then? but the 55 is a better value. I do both, each is good in it's own way ...
my SL55 puts instant torque to the ground, where my GT2 spools and then gets fast in a non-linear pushing you back in your seat fashion... 2 totally different feelings and power delivery...I like them both. I always say the SL55 AMG is quicker but the GT2 is faster lol
...better et vs trap speed respectively lol!

...better et vs trap speed respectively lol!...and from what I have been reading, the SL65 with a flash and DR's is exacty as quick and almost as fast as my 18G'd 996 Turbo. Pretty impressive for a 4500lb hardtop convertable....
I think with a SL55 you can do take the difference in cost to a 65 and mod it and have a faster car, keep in mind tuning is huge for both cars...in the 1/4 mile the blower can be advantageous if the car is set up right...
interior and anemieties wise they are very similar... both are very fun to drive!
yeah they are quick...but you can't do much more than that on a 65...otherwise you're talking redoing intatkes/turbos/etc.. and custom stuff lots more money...

there is a big difference between quick and fast, as you know. A tuned SL65 is a quick car, its amazing torque allows it to run the quck 1/4 times that it does, but it does it at a relatively low MPH, hence its a relatively slow car as compared to your 996tt. A tuned 65 will never turn 130 traps and the 60-130's youve run, youre looking at mid/high 120's and high 7's to low 8's If you need an v12tt info, I know them like the back of my hand. My old CL600 beat most tuned 65's

I agree and I absolutely understand the difference between quick and fast. One of the posts I read was here in the MB section. A guy with a SL65 with a flash and DR's ran 11.0 at 128...My 996tt ran 11.1 at 134....and it weighed 1000lbs less...and it's not a hardtop convertable....

FINALY i got to understand the difference between quick and fast.Thank you guys.
