Need Crank Case Vent Valve - Torn Diaphram was causing the most terrible, loud noise
After a lot of pain and expense, we have determined that the noise coming from my '06 Cayenne S was caused by a torn diaphragm in the vent valve. The problem is, Porsche wont sell just the valve, you need to but a new valve cover which I don't need. Any ideas, folks? Anyone have a scrap engine that they can part with the valve? Here is Canada, the valve cover is $600 but looking at aftermarket parts for BMW for example, the valve shouldn't cost much more than $50. The thought of buying the entire valve cover makes me want to scream.
Your thoughts/ideas are more than appreciated.
FYI - The noise itself sounded like a bad bearing - it sounded like metal on metal, it was soooo loud you could hear it for two blocks. It only happened when the car was hot and would momentarily go away during acceleration. After replacing the power steering pump, tensioner and serp belt, noise was still there. Pulled the transmission out as the noise sounded like it was coming from the bell housing.... ended up being the vent valve. If anyone is having mysterious screaming from their cayenne, check the vent valve!
