bentley 2008 gtc

Hi all,
I have a 2008 GTC with 45k on the clock. Recently the car was put in for repair. Apparently the right bank cam phasers have packed it in. I have been advised the motor will need to be removed to remedy this.
The symptom was rough idle on cold start and excessive fuel consumption.
Has anyone else encountered this problem.
It has taken 1 month just to find the cause.
Does anyone have any comment or advise as to what I may have to be cautious of if this repair is carried out.
Regards,

I would call up another dealer or repair shop to see what is required to repair this. What did they say is wrong with the cam phasers? Do you have any check engine light on?

Thanks 4 your reply
Its been to 2 dealerships
They can't tell me what is wrong, this is what concerns me.
They want to pull the motor replace the phasers and cams?
Without fully knowing what the exact problem is.
There was no fault indication on the dash only the 2 fault codes on the OBD.
As a point of interest the fuel consumption was 1lt for every 3k's traveled at 60kph

They removed the engine, yes, and the rest of the front of the car to get it out.
The car was fine after they replaced the cam phasers. Big job though, and the service centre needed lots of help from the UK.
I keep the car for another year and sold it because of the many other problems it had, plus every time it was serviced it was damaged in some way.
All in all not a good experience with the car or the dealer.
Funny thing though, I have recently seen the same car for sale on carsales.com.au and advertised with less mileage than what I sold it with 2 years ago. On enquiry I also discovered the whole history of the car was altered on the Bentley file at the dealership.
Bentley UK was not interested at all in this information.
Anyone considering a second hand Bentley would need to be very cautious indeed.

...what a horrible experience...where was the work done...are you positive it was your car with the different mileage...if it was your car, that is criminal fraud...how did you get the info from the dealer...did all of this happen in Australia... JimB

All work and servicing at Bentley Sydney in Australia.
Definitely my old car same chassis number.
When I saw it for sale I rang the seller to inform him of the discrepancy in the mileage.
He told me I was wrong and it was a one owner car with a full service history.
I then contacted Bentley Sydney and enquired as to the service history for the chassis number on the car, sure enough its now a one owner car with a full service history under a different name.
Buyer be very aware when buying a second hand Bentley in Australia
They had no history on the car under my name, very odd I thought.
I then contacted Bentley in the UK and expressed my concern.
I was told a representative would be in touch, never happened.

.....what time frame are you speaking about...what year your work done...what did work cost...what year did you sell car...sold to private party or traded in with a car dealer....here in California we have very strict Dept Motor Vehicle laws...it is not possible to erase a former owner of a car....as example I had a Ferrari Daytona, sold it 20 years ago...last year a fellow contacted me...he is present owner....it had gone through 6 other owners, but he was able to get full ownership history....it does not seem B Sydney did a correct transaction...JimB

It was about 5-6 years ago the repairs where done, didn't cost me a cent as the warranty covered it.
Sold the car nearly 3 years ago I think, to a dealer in another state.
Strict laws here too and heavy fines if caught but apparently its quite common.
The most disturbing thing is the fact that Bentley have changed the history to suit.
Thats a worry!

no, luxury car dealer.
We have the same here, my wife doesn't want any trouble so I haven't reported it to the authorities.
If anyone considers buying that car I hope the are diligent enough to get a mileage check done with the motor registry in N.S.W
Certainly changed my view on Bentley motors though. I don't think i'll buy another.
