Does anyone have any problems charging their iphone 5 in the lighter socket?

GT killed one apple adaptor and made the cable hot to touch. Bought another adaptor which is still working but cable still gets hot. There are no problems with the cable charging in other cars so does the GT lighter socket produce more amps than others?
