Does my horn sound normal?

Hi,

I recently discovered that my horn doesn't sound normal compare to other cars like Merc/BMW. It sounds more like a clown car than Bentley.

Could you please listen to this and see if it sounds like your horn:

It feels like the bass is missing.

I have just had the very same problem.
The lower horn of the two had rusted up so badly that it wouldn't work.
I fitted a new one and all is back to normal.
Replacement is by removing the front right inner arch liner. The horns are at the front, you can't miss them.
The faulty one was a right pain to get off due to seized nuts though.

Regards. Les.

Thanks Les. Do you mind telling me where did you purchase the replacement horn and how much was it? Secondly, did you have to remove the wheel as well?

Hi Lilo.

Yes, wheel off job and the bolts holding the inner arch are the 'Torx' type.

I happened to have a spare horn in the garage from some years ago. It was one of a pair that I used to fix the same problem on one of my Jaguars.
I wouldn't mind betting that VW horns are the same, not sure about the 2 pin connector though!
If you are OK with altering the wiring connections then any aftermarket high/low tone horn would work.

Les.

Hi again Lilo.

I saw some VW ones on ebay and the connectors do look the same. Some show the part number as well so that may help.

Thanks Les. I found this as well: http://www.vwparts2go.com/oem-part/v.../3d0-951-221-c

I will go to a local VW dealer to pick one up. I absolutely love the VW Phaeton connection because otherwise, it will be insanely hard to source some parts!
