How to fix passenger electric seat motor?

Hi all,

One of the passenger seat adjustment has failed on my 2004.

I'm not sure what it is called but it is the at the front of the seat where you could adjust it forward or back towards your calf.

Is there anyway to replace this motor?

Edit: when I pressed the button, I could hear the relay engaging. I also recently replaced my front cigarette lighter fuse. I'm not sure if I might accidentally broke something while doing that.

Before you start ripping into job please check battery voltage and maybe try seat with engine running also just apply a little pressure on that part that moves and see if you can re-engage it. At worst if you take the seats out they are surprisingly easy to work on but beware of airbags etc depending on year you should buckle seat belt to de activate seat sensors. If you don't and tilt seats too far you face buying a new seat !

Hi Bentleytech.

Thanks for the response as usual!

1. Check battery level: you mean the car battery? If the engine is running, would this be a factor?

2. I will try to push that part open and see if it moves.

Thanks again.

before any electrical issue on the continental series you should always check the main battery which is on the left in the trunk,i have seen it cause all sorts of issues and even with engine running issue can still be present,so once that is done you can then proceed with diagnosing seat issue.

Thanks BentleyTech.

Should I check if the battery voltage is around 12.6V using a multimeter when engine is off?

Hi. Yes checking the battery voltage with a multimeter is fine but occasionally you should do a load check on it to make sure the internals are good. But for this exercise use the multimeter Have you got access to a diag machine there will be faults stored in the seat module if there is an issue with that motor

Hi BentleyTech,

I'm ordering a VagCom so should be able to test this next week.

I will test the battery today and see if it is the issue. Coincidentally, I read on the Phaeton Forum that the 'Level Fault' error might sometimes be related to the battery problem.

I've took my car to two different shops and none reported any suspension problem. However, I got Level Fault from time to time.
