VAS 5054A help

So my engine light came on and I figured I would get one of those scanners and see if I could diagnose this myself before I asked the mechanic.....

Got the device and installed it. Plugged in the VAS5054 with USB cable. Software said connection with vehicle established when I keep the foot off the brake and turn the key.

It tells me to turn on the ignition. I start the car but the software still has an X through that as though the car is not on. What am I doing wrong.

Funnily enough just as I am doing this the check engine light goes out!

Any help appreciated. and I did change the admin selection to Bentley. Once I get this fixed I will try the blue tooth adapter for the VAS.

Mine can't connect to the Bentley automaticly either. I have to select vw phaeton and 6.0 engine and it goes through. Try that

I have an Autel scanner. With that it simply asks for the ignition to be switched on.
Try that and see if it helps.

Les.
