Wayward Satnav?

The Satnav on my 2006 Continental GT has just gone crazy, it thinks I'm about 60 miles away from my location so it has me tracking across fields as I drive and is useless for navigation.

I mean it wasn't exactly great anyway and obviously outclassed by a modern Tomtom etc but it was nice to have as a backup.

I've tried resetting it with the Reset button and removing and reinserting the nav disc but nothing fixes it.

I suspect it's lost contact with the satellites and may be a GPS antenna issue.

Does anyone have any ideas or know where the antenna is located?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hello,

My GT's Nav is so out of date my house development doesn't show up. I looked all over for an upgrade. I even checked into replacing it with an aftermarket unit but they looked like they were aftermarket. I wanted a true factory look.

I decided to get a new review mirror with an up to date GPS Nav, Bluetooth and back up camera built in. I went with the most expensive top of the line one i could find. It also can play movies. It has a built in radar detector (side note: its not Escort or V1 quality). It also has built in DVR, front camera and many other features.

I think you can do it yourself, although I had it professionally installed. I wanted all the wires to be hidden properly.

This is the mirror i went with: http://app-tronics.com/smartnav5r.html

Buzz, as we all know the BMW DVD HIGH discs work fine and 2015 is available for around $50. Are you sure you looked all over for an upgrade? Personally, I like to use my phone as Google /Waze handles traffic too Waze also alerts of police and a V1 is a nice addition

Oh, 2006 is the multi-CD system. So get the latest CD version and you'll be fine. Worked well in my previous 06. But yeah, the Bentley NAV system is prehistoric.

That's an interesting thought, thanks Bozz. Must admit I freak slightly at the thought of anyone but a Bentley dealer or specialist stripping out the interior to install the wires for something like that.

I had a Ferrari 575 a few years back and had a reversing camera installed with an Alpine popout satnav to replace the terrible Becker factory unit and from then on there were annoying squeaks and rattles during driving from the interior as presumably the trim was incorrectly aligned in various places.

It looks like a very cool solution though...

....The Navigation system in my 2010 Speed is junk...haven't even tried to use it in years...my wife's Lexus has real navigation, she knows about this stuff and has given up on one in Bentley...is there anything that can be upgraded or is it just useless...I do use the C.D. disc player that works fine...JimB....The last time I tried to use the Nav was few years ago...a very hot day in the valley...around 100...pulled over to try find a friends street in strange town...just gave up after 15 minutes...told dealer that I took a hammer to the damn thing....he said Oh My that will be expensive...
