I was wondering, given the choice of a good set of AP discs and 6 pots on the front and AP discs and 4 pots on the rear or Carbon brakes set then what in truth is the best ?
I've never had Carbon brakes but I do have and have used massive AP braking system many time and I like . Bloody site cheaper too

 

Metal bakes are fine. No need for carbon.

 

I have Carbon brakes on my Lambo and my Bentley V8s. They are fantastic, definitely better than steel, but I agree no real need for them.
They look great though!

 

Thanks for sharing your thoughts guys. its what I was thinking. A good set of Bremsport or AP would be a fraction of Carbon. My car has 680/700 bhp and 710 lbft torque atm and I can get the brakes a little flustered with a good spirited drive.
I am going to make a post in a minute about converting mechanically a speed to a supersport so will be interested to see who has done it.#

One advange of carbon brake is lack of brake dust.

 

A thing to remember with Carbon Brakes is that you have to run them in before any hard use, otherwise you will glaze them, which means they will have to be replaced.

 

I have carbon brakes on my e63 estate. The best thing about them is no brake dust.

 

on te brake dust topic whats the best stuff to remove really hard backed on brake dust, that stuff you cant get off no matter how hard you try ?

 

Spray on any decent wheel cleaner with iron remover leave for 60 seconds to turn red/purple, agitate with a brush, rinse and repeat if necessary.

I personally use nanolex wheel cleaner and iron remover. But any decent valeting/detailing brand will do the job. Remember to seal them afterwards to make cleaning easy next time.

Is it really strong. I embarrassingly admit to leaving the really hard brown stuff each time I wash the wheels and hence it layered and baked in. Ive found it on EBAY for £28.99. is that about right or where do you get yours from?

I just bought a little tool called brush hero. It is a water powered brush to clean wheels. I hate scrubbing wheels so hopefully this tool will speed up the process. There are few YouTube videos demoing its function.

 

Metal brakes last about 2-3 laps on a racetrack. CCBs last as long as needed. CCBs also have no brake dust. Finally, if you do not track your car, CCB rotors may last as long as the car.

 

Just read another post by another member who has Carbon ceramic brakes. The replacement rotor costs an arm and a leg compare to steel ones. This is a huge con as brake is a wearable item...
