99 Arnage transmission slip

My 1999 Arnage, fresh from about 2 days of 250 plus miles a day, ran perfect. Drove back to home, stopped at the car wash, had a good wash, drove home 1 mile. Parked, went inside, came back out 10 minutes later backed out of the driveway, and the transmission on my 99 Arnage will not engage, reverse is fine, drive at 3000 rpm will only produce 28 mph.
mind youbthis is a well maintained car, new to me, from a reputable dealer, the transmission feels like it has entered a "limp mode". Any ideas, I am, as you would expect, shaking in my boots as I enter my 5th day of ownership of this fine car. I am really puzzled, I might add the battery light went on as well, did I get something wet, is there a limp mode cure?
i am crazy about this car, but more than a little worried

Hi Steve.

As this problem arose after washing the car, I would imagine that water got to something electrical.
Maybe try it again after a day, when it's had time to dry out.
If the problem persists, I would be taking it back to the dealer seeing as you only just bought it.
Have you checked under the hood or the trunk bottom for any water that shouldn't be there?

Good luck.

Les.
