Adler I would leave the Park Brake Switch to the last, I would definitely go 1st for the Parking Brake Motors, it could be either side.
A few months after my first problem I had the same symptoms reappear, didn’t mess around this time just changed the opposite side motor, sorted.
Even though I’d read Threads about how easy the actual parking brake switch was to open up I found it hard work, mine was sealed really tight, I almost ruined it breaking it open, in fact I’m surprised it still works
My dash says that the park break is engaged and I can not get it to disengage.
This is is what I have done so far:
installed new rear calipers.
Checked motors for e brake (one side did not work but when I disconnected it and moved it to the other side the motor spun both to engage or disengage.
I also followed the wire that connects to the e brake motor to another plug. Tested that plug for power and nothing.
As as a result I am assuming that there is a power issue. Are there any fuses that control the rear e break motors separately?
Could it be my switch but only impacting one side? My wires look good.
Sorry for late update. Today I just replaced my parking brake motor successfully. on my GT 2006. From Audi A8 for just £44 it fits 100% well, works and warning is gone. I hope it helps someone with same problem. I bought this one - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1PC-4E099...72.m2749.l2649
sounds good that these fitted...was it much of a job or any special proceedure to swap out the motors..and are they the same motor on both sides? thanks for the info
thanks for the info bud your a legend, i will order a couple and see what goes..the part numbers are not even close so you took a big leap there..did you have to go through the handbrake set up proceedure or just straight switch the motors ?
yes, the process is straight forward, remove wheel, take off 2 screw, unplug the electric socket, and that's it. Just make sure everything not blocked by rust in caliper before fitting the new part. It will be some hex screw make sure it spin's well both (clockwise /anticlockwise) directions.
Look at the video guy replacing one on VW, part is different but it will give you and idea what am I talking about. -
It was good to wipe up the message from the car's memory but not necessarily. All process takes 20 minutes per wheel relaxing with can of beer. Once replaced - alert message will go away itself without computer. the Best of luck.
I started a Bentley Fix video blog where I am going to share my Bentley experience fixing the issues of my used car., like water leaking and other stuff I facing. You're welcomed if interesting. - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCTy...43W3Eql9ItlAHA
well thanks for the info my friend , used the link provided and purchased two of the same as one side on mine was a little noisey.
swapped well easy and all ok now and nice and quite.. they seem good quality parts for the money and at the price is silly cheap..many thanks for the lead.
I have the same problem with EPB permanently stuck on after removing the centre console. I found the black plastic part (post 3 pic 1) sitting underneath but thought nothing of it and threw it away - idiot ! Now i realize this is most likely the source of my problem. I am still bewildered as to how this could have come out of the switch in the first place, but I do remember snagging the switch when removing console so perhaps that did it.
So now I have the switch out and am trying to do the fix described in post 8 but am curious as to how you were able to remove the bottom cover. There are 4 small slots on the side that appear to hold the bottom to the top but when I try to get some leverage under the corner nothing seems to budge. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Hello @mohara ,
Are you in Oakville Canada, or California ?
I have a parking brake switch that I would donate to you, but if in Canada, you most likely would get hit with a hefty import tax, as just happened recently to another member that I sent the part as a gift, and they nailed him 75 Canadian..
It's yours for the shipping if you want it.
Thanks Johnny, that is very kind and generous of you. I'm in Oakville Ontario Canada but will take my chances with the import duty. I'll PM you with my address and send you payment for the shipping.
Sounds like you're sorted. But if it helps anyone in the future, those 4 tabs that must be simultaneously 'unlocked' when pulling the case bottom. I used a utility blade corner to slide in from underneath and used as a wedge in at the bottom and then keep the tabs open, and another on the other side.
edit... Have my old switch in front of me and corrected above.
Pics below. Note... The lower portion is rotated 180 degrees in the photo with it out. Also, 1 abnormality, I lost the black stick, so the top portion shows a white plastic rod i fashioned as a replacement. Bought a new switch, but decided to keep this one as a spare and put the white one there to remind me to replace it with the proper one from the switch that's in there.
