Sorry to hear, did you experience any of the symptoms I had leading up to this?
Some points:
Better to replace in pairs, 2 weeks after replacing the right, left failed as well, probably did not like the sitting on the bottom
It is a pain to get the compressor to work again when jack mode was activated (...)
Phaeton struts work just fine, easy to find on ebay (as well as the control arms for phaeton, original ones have 0000 on them anyway)
It seems to be a common problem, I found a german company selling DIY repair kits for these struts, that saves a lot of cash, happy to share the details.

Funny you mention the German company. That's the route I'm going to take. Getting the airbag off the strut is not difficult. Mine exploded during the night in the

garage.

To some degree this is what the Rebuilders are doing. Not too complicated.

Ive been following this forum for some time I find some of you to be like 5 year olds trying to put one on the other, your one of them as soon as some other member writes a blog you wright trying to get one up you wrighting nothing diffrent from the last blog infact its worse and most of the time in-correct
I find only 3 main guys who are the main contributors to this forum who provide vital information all the others just jump on the wagon
