A situation like this has never occurred to me, and I find it rather weird. It’s something that I would not want to happen to me. If my insurance company declared they don’t have my car in the repair database, I would do my best to change the company when I would have the possibility.
The claim was actually paid. They just told me to go get a few quotes and which ever one I picked they paid.
GEICO had the 2014 FS in the system, but it could not source parts for estimates. The claim was based on price quotes from the local dealership. New front 21" wheel plus alignment was estimated at ~$4,200. They deposited funds minus the deductible in my account within 4 days. Dallas Public Works was great with tracking down the contractor responsible for the poor road repair around the manhole. Their insurer used the GEICO estimate and reimbursed GEICO the full amount. I received reimbursement for my deductible the same day. Accident occurred July 9th, GEICO payment on the 13th, Dallas ID'd contractor on the 15th, GEICO and I reimbursed on July 27th! Vehicle scheduled for dealership inspection for suspension and/or steering damage, next week.
