I've been driving my GT in the bad weather (lots of salt, I'm going to hell for that, but I keep it washed).
The other day, it was close to zero degrees out. I put gas in and the retaining strap was so cold and brittle, it just snapped in my hand.
I want a new one, it's silly to spend a bunch of money on a whole new cap. There's a sketchy website from a guy that 3-d prints them, but I have my doubts he has actually done Bentley.
A quick parts search tuned up nothing. What is the gas cap in common with on the Volkswagen side? Anyone have a replacement answer?
I've been driving my car regularly and it seems to really like that. It sat on the dealer's lot for six months and stuff stopped working, now that I drive it, it all seems to be just fine.
Here's what the retaining strap looks like and a clue that it might be available seperately.
Edit: found the part number for the original cap 3W0201550U
Pop down to a Audi or VW centre and explain your predicament with a view to taking a peek at a gas cap on a Phaeton / A8 , or any other .
They probably will have the part albeit in a different package .......and pleasantly different price .
Some VAG parts centres have total access to the “ system “ all they need is the Bentley part number and the “ system “ will find all the existing Bentley cross matches across the entire range ...Audi , Porsche , VW , Lamborghini, Seat , Skoda .
That black plastic ring / gas cap holder is a typical example.
My 07 GT had a broken fuel cap lanyard when I bought it... I plastic welded it back together and it's been just dandy since. If it breaks again, I believe I'll change it out to something more flexible in the cold temperatures, like a good piece trick line (small gauge nylon rope).
