Tires for '05 Bentley GT

I did a quick search and can't find a lot of info, although I know we've talked about this before. I want to change my four tires, I think I have the original 19" rims (how do I tell?). I want good tires, what have you guys done?

I have an '05 CGT as well. My car has Pirelli P-Zero Neros on it. I like the ride but they're kind of noisy on the highway.

Thanks. I think I'm going with the Michelins, they have great reviews and supposedly much lower tire noise.

Good choice if Pilot Sport 4S

Are the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S available for your vehicle? If so, can't say enough good things on that model. Have them on 911s (991 generation), Audi S5, and just put on R8 V10 now. The R8 had the Pzeros and they were just plain awful, noisy and became very hard. The Porsche even went to a track day and held up well with these.

Not noisy, good wet traction - you'll like them.

Here is my issue: I drive my car year-round. The experts say the PS 4S have "zero" traction in ice and snow, I don't drive through it very much, but every once in a while I absolutely have to get to the airport. How are your tires in all weather?

I am just torn, I have to order today to make my appointment at my independent and I want the Michelins but they don't have an all-season option for the weight of our cars, it's only "summer" tires.

Please, let me know your experience. Can I order these and not regret it? I live in Chicago.

Am in Houston so I am no help for ice/snow. In that case, there may be a better Michelin option that leans to all-season but not by title? Or different brand with those characteristics?

Would you be opposed to having a winter set of wheels/tires which I realize presents cost/storage/changing issues?

Hate to think you have to compromise having a tire that is mediocre at most things and not good at particular aspects.

Thanks for the conversation. I completely agree…right now I have Michelin A/S ("All Season") on the car, it came with them and they aren't weight-rated. I haven't had any problems with them, but they are dry-rotted and cracked due to age and the tread is worn. It's time, but my only two real options are your tires (great reviews) but Tire Rack said, "Zero grip on anything icy or any snow" and there is actually a blank spot where the "snow" review would go.

I can't buy snow tires because I have nowhere to store (I live in a high rise) the off-season tires.

I am just torn…I probably should just not be driving this thing in the snow, but I bought it as a daily driver. So you vote for the Pilot Sports?

A funny aside, I actually ordered them last night but at 8:30 my credit card declined the transaction due to possible fraud, so before I pulled the trigger a second time I started asking more questions and I'm second-guessing myself.

For my applications, I am satisfied and recommend the PS 4S, however, I don't want to jeopardize your car/life with improper summer tires with ice/snow.

Did you have the A/S when they were newer and could be tested in ice/snow? I realize the weight rating is a factor but I am not certain to what extent. Also, wonder what the recommended Bentley tire really is for wet/snow/ice. When these cars are new the supplies are generally what the factory can get which can differ even in the same model year (Unless tire is model specific).

As far as storage, do dealers or some garages offer to do this for winter tires in your area? Also, there are independent tire installers that might be better suited to handle your wheels/tire for replacing which I say after an incident for my R8 of with Discount Tire and there so-called "touchless" machine that scraped two rims they now are paying to have redone. The other places come to your house and can handle the new tires with skilled technicians. I know some of the local Porsche guys in Houston have done this with success and even have them change tires to track versions on a regular basis.

Shoot me a PM if easier to continue this in more detail there.

Try Dunlop winter sports and be safe rather than sorry ,
I switch every 6 months because I have a garage to store them .
The P zero Rosso B1 spec and the winters ^^ .
The winters are perfectly fine when it’s warms up and fantastic in the snow .

In the end, I didn't actually have a choice, the Michelin P/S that I ordered and were canceled actually got put back through by the vendor, so they're on their way, I guess we'll find out. They were crazy expensive, $1,300 for four, about $300 more than the P-Zeros, don't know what mounting is going to cost, but I'm not worried about that, my independent does a great job with taking care to not scratch or damage and I'll pay extra, I, too have had the Discount Tire experience, once I watched with horror as they stripped two of my Triumph chrome lugs with an over-powered air wrench. Zzzzzzap! Zzzzzap! Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzap! as it simply spun freely, then on to the next one. Won't let those guys near my Bentley.

I liked your idea about the tire service that comes to you, but I'm in a really bad spot for anything car related. I live in a high-rise and my car is valet parked (cue the Ferris Bueller Ferrari joy ride, but I can't get the old-timer valet to borrow it, I want him to take his wife out for dinner and he won't do it) so there really isn't a place for any independent service. You're not even allowed to work on your car in the parking deck.

So thanks for all the help guys, I think the best answer is,"What they hell are you thinking, driving this car in the salt and snow?" I'll probably just take my wife's car, or have her drive me in the few snowstorms we get. Also, this thing is AWD, it might do better than a RWD 911 or Corvette.

I'll let you guys know what the ride difference is. I'm going from Michelin all-season to Michelin summer, might not be that much of a difference.

Glad to hear it is working out.

You did not mention access to another vehicle so presumed that was not an option but happy to hear that it is.

Keep us posted on your thoughts after you run them a bit.

Well for those of you lurking, John and Txtonyo were absolutely right…these are awesome tires. I had to back over a low curb to get down from in front of my independent and right there I could tell the difference. These tires are much quieter and feel much better than my old Michelin all-seasons that were under-rated for the car's weight. My old tires were dry rotted and stiff, these are awesome tires.

The technician that put them on said he had them on his car and loved them, they were the best tires. I asked him about winter driving and he looked at me like I was nuts, "These are summer tires I don't drive in the winter, I have a different set", so no new info there. But the tread is not deep.

Anyway, thanks for the discussion, I'm really happy with them. I got new oil and a cabin air filter change, plus they talked me into a brake system flush. I'm normally not into those (at all) but it's in the Bentley service manual for my mileage, so if I can protect my caliper pistons I'll do it.

Car is driving great. I haven't hooked a computer up to it recently but they did, no codes, how cool is that?

Cool. I'll keep that in mind for my next set.

Did you go to FMU for your work?
