Anyone have experience with Rolls Royce Ghost/phantom?
SubscribeHi,
I have a 04 continental GT for 5 years now so looking to for something else.
There doesn’t seem to be a lot of info on reliability and running cost of Ghost. I saw a gentleman here had some issue with his ghost and traded in for Flying Spur.
Another guy said you can’t even take off the wheel without going to dealer. Any truth to these crazy story?
Anyone else have experience? Are they less reliable than Continental GT?

the story about u can’t take off the wheel.. need to go to dealer is wrong.. maybe he lost the locking key
N74r engine is Bmw V12 engine.. which u can find on 760li.. that engine is less reliable compare with w12 bentley
1st : Piezo fuel injector is common issue.. it use the same injector as many other bmw.. they has the update version of this injector to index 13.. in order to install the update u need to change all of the injector and it cost alot.
2nd : carbon buildup issue due to common bmw bad pcv design
3rd : oil consumption start at 50k miles due to valve stem seal and oil leak.. requiring engine out to repair
4th : coolant leak same as any other bmw due to they run 105c thermostat for better emissions control. Some tuning company make 90c thermostat for it.. but need to try in order to know exactly.
5th : catalytic converted issue which cause the fault code 2c32.. egg smoke smell due to oil consumption
6th : front air suspension issue.. very common and very expensive to replace.. no aftermarket for it yet.
transmission is same zf8hp with bentley so it should be same reliability
electrical is more modern and better.. but has common problems with comfort access door handle and it cause battery drain and lose clock settings each time y park the car overnight
in general I think for reliability if bentley is 10 and Ghost is 5 or 6
And.. for driving experience
Bentley is sportier and handle better.. rumble
Rolls is dead quiet and like a big old cadillac.. floating in the road.. 2 different style

Thanks nguyennhatquang for the detailed write up. It is shocking to see Ghost at 5/6 vs Bentley 10. My car is just under 50k miles have replaced all controls arms, brakes, rebuilt air suspension, engine out to fix vacuum leak, replaced few solenoid.
Is Ghost ownership going to be worse than this? I've looked up parts price on FlyingSpares. They seem comparable.
On a side note, is it worth to upgrading to Gen 2 CGT when Gen 3 is out? My car looks brand new with Supersports bumper and LED ring light. Also upgraded with new steering wheel, shift ****, Quicksilver X-pipe and exhaust.
Difference in Gen 1 and Gen 2 seems very similar...
@superwoman : well it up to you
my car is spur so it doesn’t has vacuum on the top.. pretty reliable car.. u should try the brand new one.. the dct really make a difference the gen 2 which use V8 4.0 tt same engine as audi and it has turbo filter issue which requires turbo replacement which very expensive

Thanks. The depreciation on a new Bentley is going to wreck me lol.Originally Posted by nguyennhatquang

I've been looking online for the past few days about Ghost. The amount of available information is very limited online. I couldn't find any service manual or diagnostic tool for that car. Could be a nightmare to own...

Please upload some pics of your new frontend. I have an aftermarket Supersports bumper on mine, but with a black honeycomb-type grille insert pattern, and I do not like it. It's difficult finding another set of grille inserts for the Supersports bumper.Originally Posted by superwoman

Also, what LED ring lights did you go with? Did you replace them yourself?

my front end is OEM super-sports bumper with OEM grille.
LED is the angel ring. I had a local light guy crack the headlight open and installed it. He also painted the interior black like the supersport headlight. Makes the car very modern compare to stock.

Im not sure if OEM grille fits on your aftermarket bumper. If yes, I have a new genuine side grille available that I bought extra by accident from Flyingspares. I have to double check if it is LH or RH side.Originally Posted by xclens

if you’re interested, I can sell it to you if you like the OEM look. If it doesn’t fit, I’m happy to refund if you can cover the shipping cost. My main account here is lilo1980. I lost access to that account.
