Rear suspension question?

Is this a problem or necessarily an indicator of a problem soon?

I'm going to guess that's a split dust cover. Hopefully nothing more serious, but I imagine worth replacing. One of the experts will be along shortly, I'm sure!

Yes, they are both very badly split. I am just wondering if it's a sign of impending doom or nothing important to worry about.

If your suspension is working leave it alone. At some point they will need to be replaced but nothing wrong with leaving it alone for now.
