Original infotainment / canbus question
Hello everyone!
I’m curious - I would like to understand the computer network that controls the infotainment in the earlier cars (<2008?)
Looking at the Ross-tech site, it looks like 08-12 used canbus, and the older cars used something like ‘dual-k’ or ‘hex-can’. It’s not clear.
Anyway, the reason for my question is to think through the feasibility of an upgraded center screen, using android, that would interface to canbus and yet offer android auto and CarPlay.
And yes, I’ve seen the aftermarket solution that replaces all of it with new buttons, and has a slot for a double din head unit, but the esthetics aren’t for me.
It is the only part of my car that is diminished when looking at newer cars/models. If my Spur had a modern satnav, it would be perfect.
