Heater blowing cold

Hello,

On my Gt, MY 2004.

The middle vents blow cold regardless of high temp settings, this is the same for the rears two vents. However the side vents at the front do blow warm, but not there is not much air coming through.

Looking at the orevious invoices, some work was done a few years back, which is a coolant flush to unblock heater matrix, is that what it could be?

Sorry not very technical or mechanical, typical IT guy!

Thanks

center vent heat

It has been a long while since I owned my 04 GT but I seem to remember there being buttons above the infotainment center, one blue, one red, and they maybe controlled temp for those vents. It was to allow you to have cool air on your face while the rest of the car was warmer. Press the red button a bunch of times.

Thank you.

I tried that and the cold button seems like its is pretty stuck, can do some slow presses, whereas the hot button will not work or press in.

Don't want to pull dash apart, not sure if I can prize open the front, just don't want to damage anything

I still think it is the heater matrix clogged/air in the coolant, as did get a small amount of warmish air the other day as drove the car for a while.

Greetings,

Before driving check the coolant level. Then put the system on maximum heat and drive for a while. Check the coolant level once the system cools down. Also, Might be time for a coolant fluid flush and fill anyway (g12 coolant).

Sometimes the heater valve, centered [outside] the windshield down in the scuttle gets lazy or stuck. That will impact the heating and cooling. Sometimes changing the coolant and exercising the heat can free it up? Hard to diagnose when not there.😓

Thank you,

Okay will need to top coolant with water or coolant?

Like I said looking at a previous bill 2 years ago looks like coolant flush done as issue with clogged hearer matrix.

Is there any guidelines on how many litres is required.
.halfords sell the correct one (green) and it has antifreeze mix.

Thanks

The correct level is determined in the expansion tank. Fill up to the white plastic tab down in the expansion tank. G12 coolant is the correct type antifreeze which is pinkish in color. The green coolant is incorrect. The incorrect anti freeze will not affect the heating. Best to have the system flushed and changed out to the correct type of antifreeze. One can top off with distilled water assuming the original mixture/ratio is correct [check with a hydrometer] for the climate zone that the car operates in.

This explanation may help with the query for the correct fluid.

This just gives us an idea of what to look for.

Great thanks,

that explains the gren colour and needs flushing asap, when I switch off the car the thermostat kicks in, not sure but maybe to do with the coolant, the temp does not go over 90 though.

I have seen 5 litres for £11.00 on Amazon, it is by MANNOL a german company, it is the pink Coolant G12+ MEETS THE SPECIFICATIONS TYPE Ready-to-use Coolant Fluid (-30 °C) SAE J1034 JASO M325 AFNOR FRANCE NF R15-601 (except for RA) ASTM USA D3306 ASTM USA D4656 ASTM USA D4985 ASTM USA D6210 BSI GB BS 6580:2010 FVV GERMANY Heft R443 KSM SOUTH KOREA 2142 MIL BELGIUM BT-PS-6

It is OAT,

Not sure if this will do, but need to do a flush ASAP as worried what damage existing coolant is doing.
