Why so many $$$$ for a Bentley
I found this on YT the other day. Not sure if it has been posted before as it is 2 years on now. It is an interesting piece of docu-propaganda though.
At any rate it is a fascinating piece of work on how a Bentley is built. I have a 2007 so I am sure it was not built with this same technology.
It does show how labor intensive it is to produce a car for AR-OCPD folks with lots of money.
Not sure it truly justifies the enormous price tag. It did convince me not to put the plastic Tesla style head unit in my car and preserve the original veneers.
Enjoy!

Wow, quite an interesting video, thanks for posting!
The original wooden veneers obviously cannot compare to the plastic frame around the newer Tesla-style head units. But, with that said, the technology of a 2005-2007 original head unit is lightyears away from comparing to the functionality of a newer Tesla-style head unit. And I personally would rather be able to listen to Spotify or use Google Maps than worry about if the slim frame around my touchscreen is made of plastic or wood. To each his own.

You are making good points and I have not made a final decision on what to do. My main problem with the Tesla style units is the native systems functionality. From all I read most of the functions are there but not the native TPMS. It is really hard to read between the lines in the Chinglish documentation and the myriad versions of the units that have been installed. The Nav=TV unit is supposedly the most true to original but is very expensive. The Tesla unit does seem to preserve the cd [player function for whatever that is worth. right now I am also looking at the X-Carlink units which preserve the original functions by overlaying with a touch panel and using the original display. I have not seen one of the Tesla units close up. Synthetic wood is most cars gets very close to the real thing and I doubt if most people can tell the difference. Not sure what the quality of the presentation is on the Chinese units.
I am also looking at the unit sold by Mozart. Not sure who males it. It is available in three styles, light, dark and black. Most of the other units are just black and dark wood. Regardless it is the quality of the reverse engineering of the native car functions which is most important and unfortunately very hard to sort out given the many versions and sellers of the Chinese units.

It seems many threads go OT ("Off-Topic"), and continuing communication regarding the Tesla head unit on this thread may be another one of them, but I have to admit that I haven't driven my Bentley many hundreds of miles since I installed my Tesla screen. It has just been one of those years where I have prioritized work and keeping up with the house instead of taking the toys out for a ride in the sun. But thus far I am very pleased with it.
I have mentioned this before in other threads, but in my case, I was in a little bit of a dead-end spot. I had a Japanese-import in Sweden, the FM-band was way too low to even grasp the first few stations here, the maps were stuck in Japan, the text on the screen was in Japanese, and it had a lot of extra buttons that was special to only the Japanese market. My Mulliner GT has a red leather interior with piano black inserts, so installing the piano black Tesla screen/frame was spot on. I am a picky person, and I honestly cannot tell the difference between the black plastic frame and the other original black panels. If my car had some other type of wood veneers, I might be a tad more skeptical.
Please send us links to the other units you are considering, it would be nice to read about them as well. Also check this Ben-Hur that many people here have mentioned, they seem to be pleased with it.

Thanks for the reply. Right now my piggy bank is focused on vacuum issues. After that I am thinking of upgrading the infotainment. I am considering the Nav-Tech, X-Carlink, and the various Tesla panels. They all have pluses and minuses. Aesthetics is a very personal choice as only the X-Carlink and NVC (which may be the same unit) preserve the original 'look.'
The original Tesla thread is getting long in the tooth. So I may start another when I get 'roundtuit.'
I think that the choice of aesthetics gets easier with the piano black v. the wood veneers.
As always, everyone's mileage may vary.
